You won’t wind up Torres

Recommended Posts

RAFA BENITEZ has warned Benfica's boot boys they have no chance of goading Fernando Torres into a yellow card.

The Liverpool hitman is in red-hot form right now, with seven goals in the last two weeks.

But his frustration at a lack of protection has seen him talk his way into FIVE bookings in the past eight games.

Another in tonight's Europa League quarter-final first leg in Lisbon would mean a ban for next week's Anfield return - something Liverpool can hardly afford as they try to salvage their season.

Yet Kop boss Benitez has no worries about how his Spanish star will react at the Estadio da Luz.

And he is more interested in the 26-year-old repeating the two-goal super show that downed Sunderland on Sunday.

Benitez said: "We have spoken about this in the past but Fernando knows what to do.

"The main difference on Sunday was that he was on fire from the first minute and you could see he was really enjoying his football.

"I'm not worried about him getting booked against Benfica. He has enough experience, he is confident and he should be OK."

Liverpool will certainly need Torres, Steven Gerrard and Co at their best against a side running away with the Portuguese Liga.

For all the Reds' Champions League woes, Benfica arguably present their toughest European task this season - and Benitez knows it.

He added: "They are top of their table, 10 points above Porto and are on fire.

"We know they are a dangerous team with a good stadium, where the fans are always behind them.

"They have good players, a new manager who's pushing them, quality, pace and ability. Also, they don't concede many - only 12 goals this season - and have scored 60, so they have the balance.

"Maybe there is a difference between the Champions and Europa Leagues at the start of the season but, when you see the teams left in this now, it is very strong."

Benfica have already seen off Everton twice this season - and their last meeting with Liverpool saw them beat the Reds home and away in the Champions League four years ago.

Benitez added: "Benfica are better now than when they beat us in 2006 and this will be up there with the toughest European games we've faced this season.

"But some of our players can use that defeat as a motivation."

A four year old disabled child could wind up Torres.

His temper is awful.

To be fair, a four year old disabled child is pretty annoying but I agree Torres' attitude has been awful all season.
