RANGERS and Celtic fans are heading for a midsummer clash in London with both clubs invited to take part in glamour tournaments on the same weekend.

Celtic have already confirmed they will participate in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1 alongside hosts Arsenal and continental big guns AC Milan and Lyon.

Record Sport can reveal that over the same two days Rangers have been asked to play in the Wembley Cup which will feature Chelsea and a top La Liga club.

The SPL champions have yet to accept the offer from event organisers IMG although if they do, about 30,000 Old Firm fans could descend on the capital for the two events.

Security concerns have been raised but it's understood the Metropolitan Police have given the green light for Rangers and Celtic to be in London at the same time.

They feel they can cope with a massive influx of supporters from north of the border - an attitude in stark contrast with Manchester police who blocked plans to lure Rangers south for Gary Neville's August testimonial.

Meanwhile, Rangers are set to lock horns with former boss Alex McLeish after lining up a friendly with Birmingham on August 7.

My guess is the Brum game is to be at Ibrox, this is the usual time for an Ibrox pre-season friendly.

i work with a blue nose(brummie)so if its at ibrox i will take him along for the day

Superb, talking of doing something special for it, I may try and do hospitality that day - maybe that or the flag unfurl.

I've got a mate with Club Wembley seats, might have to call in a few favours for that weekend. Just got to watch for the mhanks in Kilburn trying to stir it. Gonna be a good weekend if it turns out to be true

Irish "theme pubs" all the way from the north circular up to Wembley and on Wembley high rd,better to head for pubs north of Wembley (next stop on tube) :beer1::uk:

I posted this last week saying we were gonna be playing Chelsea and Birmingham this pre-season. Nice that one of the whispers I heard may actually be coming to fruition. Depending on circumstances at the time of those may even go down for games down there.
