The Impossible Match

Recommended Posts

The 20,000 crowd, and most of the players, struggled to keep track of the ball as the La Liga superstars’ rigid 4-4-2 diamond formation was swamped by the youngsters’ 20-60-17 headless chicken system.

The young mixed-sex team took an early lead, with the goal-scorer disappearing under dozens of team-mates in a bone-crushing celebration.

But despite their ‘slight’ numerical advantage – including three goalkeepers – the children could not hang on, with the pros winning 5-3.

Two teams of 100 youngsters played half the match each at the San Mames stadium. How many actually touched the ball is not known.

Monday’s charity game was held to bid farewell to forward Joseba Etxeberria, 32, who is leaving the Basque club after 15 years.

Fitting tribute to a man who spent his entire career at the club and even played his final year for nothing :praise:
