Solid, no nonsense defender, who will take no shit. Defensively he is pretty good, but his lack of pace has always been a problem.

He's also got good leadership qualities. On a free, pretty good signing, if he does sign for them.

Celtic could have as many as three Manchester City players on loan this season as the club is thought to be making a bid to bring midfielder Vladimir Weiss to Glasgow. The deal is believed to be close to completion and could see Slovakian international Weiss agree a season-long loan.

Contact has already been made with City over a move for Craig Bellamy and discussions regarding his Slovakian team-mate are also understood to be ongoing. In addition, newspaper reports have linked Celtic with a loan deal for City’s keeper Shay Given.

The 20-year old creative midfielder faces tough competition for a first team place at Eastlands but City want the highly-rated international to gain further first team experience. Weiss had a spell on loan at Bolton Wanderers in the second half of last season.

Though the midfielder has only made one first team appearance at City, Weiss has a burgeoning reputation. Capped 13 times for his country, Weiss played three games for Slovakia at the World Cup, including a man of the match performance against New Zealand.

Those appearances sparked interest from a number of clubs in Europe, with Manchester City’s large squad making it likely that the player would be available on loan. David Villa has already been signed by the English Premier League club and the likely arrival of James Milner would push wide player Weiss further down the pecking order.

Stuttgart and Sampdoria have already shown interest this summer but Celtic could now act to snap up the player as a replacement for Aiden McGeady, who completed his move to Spartak Moscow this week.

Celtic step up transfer moves

Celtic in for Manchester City keeper Given

The move would be the latest in what is continuing to be a busy transfer window for Celtic manager Neil Lennon. In addition to the seven players already recruited this summer, moves for two defenders are expected to be completed in the next few days.

Swedish central defender Daniel Majstorovic has already undergone a medical and will complete a free transfer from AEK Athens while Honduras international left-back Emilio Izaguirre is due in Glasgow on Sunday for talks.

Would be gutted if they got Weiss.

They won't get all 3 unless - as someone has pointed out - he wants to piss that McGeady money up the wall on the wages of season long loan players.

However, if Lemon is that insane and they get all 3, I would die a little inside.
