Guest
Steve Davis in an interview with the Evening Times today indicated that the opportunity for players at the club and any potential Rangers to play in the Champions League to test their mettle is something that will get the heart racing of any player.View the full article
Ace 3,651
I always wonder about that statement from any player.Unfortunately, our last performance(s) in the CL have been less than glorious and i think that it must be well known that, unless we punch above our weight again, it will be difficult to advance beyond the group stage.Basically, does 6 games in the CL make up for 36 games against the likes of St Mirren & Inverness ?There are Premiership teams e.g. Everton who cannot offer CL football but can provide a platform viewed worldwide & competing against Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool etc ... quality opposition in similar statue as the CL but far more often. Amac9 2,060
I think the days of being able to sign players with the lure of 6 games in the CL are gone.Players are looking for more these days and we can't compete financially with the majority of big clubs. Players would rather sign for a mid table EPL team like Bolton and earn £30,000 a week than play for a team who are offering £15,000 a week with the chance to play in Europe and challenge for trophies. disgruntled_bear 157
Champions league can still be a lure for players that at the beginning of there careers, and a looking to make a name for themselves. But apart from that the days of bringing a establish players to the SPL are gone.As long as players see us selling and the banks with a major say on how we are operating, the less chance of even younger players outwith Scotland choosing us.
