If we have £3.5m to spend on 1 player and money for Eagles, why no new contract for the 8 players Smith said he could lose?

Just nothing adds up at Ibrox at the moment.

Simple:Walter realized Thomson was nothing special, and easily replaceable(with players we already had at the club)

so we pocketed 2 Mil.good on you Walter. (tu)

Only problem with that is we have a tiny squad and cant seem to buy any players, so you have to try and keep some of your better players.

Smith is getting rid of the players he doesn`t want.

all this thomson " future rangers captain crap " that you read was unbelievable.

It`s as if he was really good for us. we did really well getting our money back on him.

He did have some decent games nearer the end of his time but over all not worth the money .

due mainly to injuries.

Och simmer to a riot and lighten up.

I would imagine the finances were much more fenced in around that time at the club, and we weren't able to even consider offering him a contract. Either that, or Walter believed £2m for him in his last year of contract was a great deal anyway and we could afford being without him - which I believe.

Thomson was a cracking player pre-injury, and did have many good games after but never held the same consistency which was quite saddening. Wish him all the best though, as with Boyd.

to make a player an internationalist, still under 27 with a european final appearance, several medals later and to not make a profit on him is shameful, despite how i rate him as a player, he was one we could and should have made millions on, allowing him to get to his last year with no extension is also a bit embarrassing

although nothing has changed in our finances. Just what people have been guessing about our finances have changed.

who thought 2 weeks ago we would bid £3.5m on a player ? we have money . we are just not being daft buying anyone.

Smith has worked it well. He has now had a good look at lemons team and he knows what is needed to beat it.

he will now go and (buy / loan / bosmans ) get the players we need. but as in every transfer window since it started

it will not be done till the last minute.

People need to look at Man utd , chelsea , arsenal . look how much money they get then look how many players they have

brought in. not a lot yet but I`m sure they will by transfer time .

This guy was a ticking time-bomb on the injury front.

Both his knee's have had major surgery on them. Now, you'd think with that happening, and you're at a top club like Gers with major prizes to be won & massive games to be played, you'd look after yourself right??

Well...tell that to Thomson. He put his whole career in jeopardy by going out & playing 5's with his mates in Edinburgh after training at Gers. I know this because someone I work with played along side him. He was one rash challenge on a five a-side pitch away from ruining his career & costing us big time. That's how seriously he took being a Rangers player! Also, these guys do not hold back either....this was full on football...sliding tackles & all!

what player are you talking about here ?

Thomson ?

if it is why would you think we would make millions on him. he wasn`t that great for us. had loads of injures stopping any team in the future bidding high on him.

davis cost £5m and thomson wasn`t half the player davis is , £2m is decent money for him.

boyd`s a different matter if it`s him you were talking about. we should have had him signed up for longer even if walter wanted shot of him. would be worth £4/5m any day while under contract.

Yeah I think thats fair to say aswell. I reckon spending £3.5m-£4m on Jelavic is worth it for a player of his calibre. Nothing but good things have been said about him ever since we've been linked with him, most recently coming from Slaven Bilic.

Ra Shellik don't look upto much just now, but if they gel it'll be a very close title race. However, I just don't think they'll gel until Christmas or possibly longer, especially their defence. Lennon doesn't have a clue how to manage that team except from sing Celtic songs and tell them to fight for the green and grey stripes. Take a look at their defence ; Cha Du Ri looks pretty tidy going forward but he also looks out his depth when defending, as do the whole defence (if you can class that thug Loovens as a defender).

I trust Walter Smith more than anyone at Rangers Football Club. There is no doubt in my mind that he'll have other options laid out at the moment. A manager of his class and experience doesn't focus on one position for this amount of time.

Or maybe it`s broadfoot your talking about but it`s ok we can still make a good profit on him.
