Ricardo Carvalho to Real Madrid

Confirmed.

A Chelsea statement read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

"The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

"Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

Carvalho joins up with former boss Mourinho, with whom he worked so successfully at both Porto and Chelsea.

The centre-back heads to the Spanish capital - reportedly for a fee of around 8million euros (£6.6million) - on the back of a hugely impressive World Cup showing in which Portugal conceded just one goal.

A Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid CF and FC Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.

"The player will be linked to Real Madrid CF the next two seasons."

Just the kind of defender Madrid need IMO.

Mourinho will be the man to get their defence sorted. Shame he isn't getting Maicon though.

Don't really need him though, do they?

Ramos - Carvalho - Pepe - Left Back

No idea who their main LB is, but thats a quality defence, almost as good as Rangers'!

I think both of them are better in midfield and even then, I'm not sure if they are good enough to be starting for Real Madrid.

I wouldn't rule out a Real bid for Gael Clichy.

I'd happily see him out the door if I was Wenger, Gibbs is almost as good as him now and will grow to be a better player.

Clichy - decent player, amazing engine on hm but not great defensively.

Cole and Evra are the best LB's around IMO, but I doubt Real would have a chance of getting either, even though they've been linked with Cole.
