Rangers rumoured to be in talks with United over Goodwillie

Recommended Posts

Muff mentioned this last night but no direct quotes from Walter, wouldn't surprise me if it was lifted off here.

RANGERS boss Walter Smith could be set to make a fresh swoop for young Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

Smith handed new signing James Beattie a debut yesterday as goals from Kenny Miller and Stevie Naismith sealed a 2-1 win over s at Ibrox.

He was pleased with the English striker's display but once again hammered home the need to bring in new players. And that could lead to Gers making a bid for Tannadice ace Goodwillie.

The clubs have held talks about the 21-year-old and United wouldn't be able to resist a £1million offer.

Ibrox stopper Andy Webster, who spent last season on loan in Tayside, has also been mentioned as a makeweight in the deal.

Last night Smith revealed: "We have money to spend. I'm not quite sure how much but money is there.

"We need to bring in players and I'd like another striker.

"In the past few weeks we've been working hard to bring in new faces but haven't quite managed as many as we would have liked.

"We will keep trying and I'd like additions before next weekend's game at Hibs. Beattie has signed already and I was pleased with his performance.

"He's behind in his pre-season preparations and probably wouldn't have played under normal circumstances.

"But we were forced to play him today. It was good win and a lot of things pleased me - but some things didn't."

When are the wide men going to arrive because we need them before another striker!

The management talk about it all pre-season, yet the first signing was a striker. Get it sorted, yesterday showed what we have lacked for years... We can't go into yet another season with out attacking midfielders/wingers, and playing strikers or right backs out there will not do!

As for Goodwillie; not the type of player we need at this moment in time!

One of this mornings paper has we are back in for Jelavic, and the other has Goodwillie, with both having similar quotes from smith about looking to add a new striker.

I think its a case of the rhags writing what they want us to hear.

We desperately need a winger, I'd be annoyed if we bought another striker before a winger, or not buying one at all.

I just hope Walter isn't bringing in strikers to replace the likes of, Naismith and Lafferty who he'd chose as our wingers.

if smith is wanting another striker, it fairly obvious that he does not think lafferty or naismith are good enough in the long term to be the clubs 1st or 2nd main striker, and will shoehorn them into other positions like the lm berth.

Don't see what he would add to the team

Pace and work-rate I'd guess, but we need more than that and Goodwillie is not a player we require at this moment in time.

Its almost guaranteed at least 1 of them will be playing as a winger most of the season, can see Davis being put out on the right as well

I hate reading this sort of shit from Walter. The manager of our club REALLY doesn't know how much we have? Really?!

That is true, and sadly i agree with your point on Davis again, unless Walter see's Whittaker playing on the right a serious option.

Think its just to stop clubs from holding us to ransom... Fulham tried to do it just because we were a 'big club' they thought we could pay over the odds for Davis but that never happened
