But not even at one point did Hardy or Daley look at all threatening. I can't see any current british fighter becoming a real contender for a title. Hardy might get another shot at GSP if he beats condit and wins another but it will just be a repeat of the first fight. GSP will take him down and dominate him on the ground for 25 minutes. John Hathaway is our most promising prospect and even at that I still think he needs a better pedigree in wrestling if he wants to contend with the likes of Koscheck and Fitch never mind St. Pierre.

Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves and Matt Hughes didn't either.

And those three would all dominate any british WW fighter.

All three of those IMO are in the top 5 in the division. No matter how much wrestling training they do, they will still fall to someone who has been doing it much longer.

In 2 years time though they will be talking about how to stop a striker with sprawling ability anyway. MMA always has one dominant skill in spells.

I certainly hope so. It's boring as fuck watching guys like Fitch lie on top of someone for 15 minutes. He hasn't finished a fight in something like 3 years? At least Koscheck tries to finish guys every now and then.

The Winner fight was a prime example. The guy did absolutely no damage and held him against the cage / mat for the majority of the fight.

Perhaps refs should be given more leeway to make clean breaks when fighters are running down the clock like this?

True. Back in the 90's and early 2000's it was all about the strikers. Then it had a wee stint with counter strikers who were elusive now it's wrestling mostly.

I hope the trend ends soon because as terryhurlock says it's boring as hell to watch folk like Fitch. The Rampage vs. Rashad fight was a prime example of lay and pray at it's best.

As BJ Penn said what good is a takedown if you do nothing about it, takedowns etc. are meant to be set ups for trying submissions or ground and pound not to hold people.

It WILL change either by strikers sprawling better, extremely active jiu-jitsu or through rule changes.

The change is already here. Jose Aldo is probably the first guy to be in the form of a striker with sick TDD and good BJJ.

Maybe JDS?

Jose Aldo was able to stop the takedown of Faber who should and is now at 135.

Would he be able to shrug off Gray Maynard?

I don't mind wrestlers if they are like Brock Lesnar who wants to finish fights, but there are too many coaches encouraging fighters to fight lay and pray. Especially Greg Jacksons camp.

And Mike Brown who is a big Featherweight.

Well, Gray is a big Lightweight so I'm not sure. Let him put on weight and move up and we'll see.

Well, Jones has the best ground and pound attack and he trains with Jackson but I know what you mean with GSP, Rashad etc.

too bad for pearson.

Oliveria looks really exciting, two great subs in a row, with a good variety in his standup.

Not to sure of nate landing after palhares stopped due to the alleged greasing, but protect yourself at all times as the saying goes.

so we have 3 great exciting youngsters in aldo, oliveria and jones. Anyone know of any young ww, mw or how.

how: Stefan Struve and Todd Duffee will be near the main event in 4 or 5 years I think.
