Team tactics only give just before kick off!

Puts last night score in an even better light, apparently the team were only told of the tactics just before kick off and hadn't actually trained to play this way! :craphead:

Steven Davis today revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson wasn’t the only one shocked by Walter Smith’s surprise team selection at Old Trafford.

The Gers boss set out a solid 5-4-1 formation that stifled Manchester United to land a 0-0 Champions League draw.

Smith’s close friend Ferguson joked that his pal should be fined for springing that surprise – and Davis admitted that the Light Blue players only found out what was happening when the team was named before kick-off.

Davis explained: “We hadn’t worked on playing a five-man defence in training. The manager just announced it before the game. We all trusted him – he always gets his tactics right.

“First and foremost, we set out to be difficult to beat and we did that. We limited them to shots from distance. It was a good team effort.”

Davis now wants Rangers to build on the result by beating Bursaspor – who were thrashed 4-0 at home by Valencia in Turkey last night – in a fortnight’s time at Ibrox.

He admitted: “Our objective now must be to score goals and beat teams at our own stadium, starting with our next game.”

Davis dedicated the Old Trafford point to the fans who roared them on after a marathon journey to Manchester.

Supporters were bussed into the stadium from Wigan after the authorities banned them from Manchester city centre.

Despite being herded like cattle all day and being in the stadium from 6.30pm, the visiting support drowned out the home crowd from before the kick-off until long after the final whistle.

Davis, who had several friends and family members in the away section, reckons they were a 12th man for the Scottish champions.

He beamed: “The fans were absolutely brilliant. They put up with a lot of inconvenience and hassle to get to Old Trafford yesterday, but were in great voice.

“I sorted out a fair few tickets for people and they all had to go through the rigmarole of going to Wigan as well. We all definitely appreciated their backing.

“They were magnificent. Given everything that they had to go through, I was delighted that we were able to send them home happy.”
