nvager 498
Rangers versus Aberdeen at Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen, on Sunday September 26, 2010. Kick-off at 12:45 pm.Rangers head to Aberdeen tied at the top of the SPL table with Celtic with 15 points from 5 games and having a goal difference of +10.Neither of these teams look likely to drop many points this season and it is vital we win this game. Celtic have a home game versus Hibernian, but I expect them to win.Aberdeen always play Rangers well at Pittodrie and I think they will do so once more if we give them too much respect. If Rangers come out playing confidently and play an attacking line-up I think we could score a few goals and put this game behind us fairly easily. If we show them too much respect then we will be more defensively minded and may struggle to win this game. Aberdeen will be well up for this game - Hartley and Diamond especially - if they play.Walter has a full squad to choose from apart from Beattie who has had a hamstring injury. The squad is larger than some think as Webster and Foster add choice in defence and Weiss and Lafferty choice in midfield and up front. Hutton and Wylde also performed exceptionally well versus Dunfermiline and Kerkar should soon be signed. That said Walter will probably go for experience and I expect to see this team:McGregor, Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac, Davis, McCulloch, Edu, Naismith/Lafferty, Miller and Jelavic.Weiss will probably be on the bench as will one of Naismith/Lafferty. I liked Hutton a lot versus Dunfermiline, but he too will be on the bench. Naismith to me does not achieve a lot, but he has played much, much better this season so far and has added a couple of good goals. Lafferty well is Lafferty, but scored a fine hat-trick against Dunfermiline in midweek. This game will be tough but I think we have a great combination up front in Miller and Jelavic who are capable of scoring goals if they get a decent service from midfield. That is the key. We need an on form Steve Davis and some good service out wide from Naismith/Lafferty/Weiss.If we get that then we will stroll through this game. If not then we will struggle as Aberdeen will be highly motivated. If our attitude is correct and we play an attacking up tempo game then I see nothing but a Rangers victory. My prediction is Rangers to win by 2 goals. Aberdeen 1-3 Rangers, with Miller and Jelavic on the score sheet.
BasileBoliSoup 9
Good analysis nva. I would go with the usual back 4, Naismith - Davis - McCulloch - Weiss and Miller - Jelavic. We need to take the game to them and if we go with that line up I'm confident we'll get the win.
Thommo 708
Agree with you that this will be a very difficult game, especially if we show them too much respect which we usually do at Pittodrie. Hopefully we are a few up at HT and have a comfortable afternoon. Also, Hartley is injured for about 2 months I think, not sure of any other Sheep injuries
Bluepeter9 5,167
I agree with your team and Davis will be deployed right - which seems to be his most effective position - He is pretty consistent but seems to have more influence on games playing n the right than through the middle. TexasGers 96
Hope you're correct with your prediction, Miller and Jelavic up front might be too much for them to handle
Peat1873 8
hope we destroy them ! long over due ! :jelavic: 3-1 to the bears
ogbg 20
I would have Weiss on the right or left and Edu on the bench, with Davis and McCulloch in the middle and Naismith on the opposite flank to Weiss. Let those two swap positions as well.
Tumshie 205
I'd love to see Gregg Wylde on the bench for Walter to give the last 20 mins. With Weiss on one side and Wylde on the other it would be brilliant late on in the game to have a greta amount of pace from the wide areas which wev been lacking for far too long
Ball Boy 1
Paul Hartley out 3 weeks, done his hamstring in apparently, need to end this hoodoo of ours when it comes to playing at the Pits.
Misteral 2,909
I think Weiss will be the bench making sure he's fit for Wednesday on the bench.
jnd34 0
I think if we have weiss miller and jelavic all starting then we could put a couple of goals past the sheep.Get wylde and hutton on with 20 mins left if we have a good league.
gerslinfield 0
I think if we have weiss miller and jelavic all starting then we could put a couple of goals past the sheep.Get wylde and hutton on with 20 mins left if we have a good league.hartley is very important to them so it good hes injured.the defence and front line pick itself , the midfield area is the keyi would go with...davis mcculloch edu weissnaismith will come in for the bursaspor game in a midfield 5....naismith davis edu jig weiss
manofthefuture 1
Would actually not mind seeing if Lafferty and Jelavic could make a good partnership on Sunday, gives Miller extra rest before Wednesday and keeps Lafferty sharp when he comes off the bench. nvager 498
We have choices as the squad has more depth with the new signings and the emergence of a couple of promising youngsters. If we can keep up our recent form then we should beat a not too great Aberdeen side. delamonty 992
It will be difficult. But I suspect we will simply have too much for them. Big Jela to get another 1 or 2 in a professional 2 or 3-0 victory for The Rangers.Naisy and Weiss on the wings again and EDU back in.

Gillete 1,338
Jelavic will bully all 6 of themwe haven't saw it yet as our style isn't to play the ball wide and whip in crosses all day but the big man is a beast in the air , can score goals for fun with his head
Ozblue 4,331
I'm pretty agreeable with the team nvager has pencilled in.Weiss to come on from the bench late on to run the ring out of them.McGhee will try and hit us on the break by concentrating on a blanket defence, so expect our 1st penalty of the season up there if Weiss is on.Jelavic should give Diamond a torrid time of it as long as we can get the proper service to him, so we are going to need Davis to thread the needle here for our "Wide" players to get the crosses in from the byline.Neither Foster or Velicka can play in this game so I expect us to win by at least 2 goals...We HAVE to win here and let Wednesday night look after itself. nvager 498
As long as we attack them and play with pace we will win. Jelavic and Miller will get goals.
