Clemdog 39,388
Tottenham are close to sealing a deal to sign South Africa international defender Bongani Khumalo after a successful trial at White Hart Lane. The 23-year-old, who played at the World Cup and had been linked with Rangers, will join from SuperSport United in January in a £1.5m deal."We're in the process of doing a deal. said Spurs boss Harry Redknapp. "We had him over on trial and we like him."He has potential, we've got a tie up with SuperSport, so we've taken him."Born in Swaziland, Khumalo played in all three of South Africa's games at this summer's World Cup, scoring in their 2-1 win over France. The arrival of the defender will be a welcome boost for Tottenham, who has seen Michael Dawson join fellow centre-back Jonathan Woodgate on the long-term injury list this season."It will be a great chance for the kid. He's a great lad," added Redknapp of Khumalo. "He comes from a poor background and he's desperate for a chance and we're going to give him a chance."http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/9032478.stmLooks like he's going to join, I wonder how he'll get on down there. Spurs have a good few injuries at the back, so it's probable at some point he'll get a look in.I'll reserve my judgement to see how he plays first. FlippinEck 3,514
I have a horrible feeling that we've missed a trick here; we could have used another centre back as well. I'd much rather have spent the £1m we spent on Beattie for a defender likes Khumalo.Im having similar thoughts, especially at that price

Clemdog 39,388
For that amount of money I have to agree with others. With the likes of Naismith, Lafferty, Miller and younger boys I think the money used on Beattie would of been good to invest in a defender. But, we didn't know if we were getting Jelavic, and we don't know how much Beattie actually cost us.
