Let me start by saying that my intention is not to turn this in to a Rangers vs Scotland (or any other country) debate.

I've really enjoyed the start to the season, as I do most, but just as we seem to get a little continuity and things start to build up, along comes another international to break up the excitement and piss me off.

Has the club game now turned in to such a high level that we do not require international football? In years gone by, International football really was the pinnacle, but now club football is full of international players and in a "head to head" game, many clubs could beat international teams, in my opinion, as they have so many more players to choose from.

The world is also a lot more accessible nowadays with so many airlines travelling to obscure places around Europe, and the world.

For me, the only time that international football matters are those European Championship and World Cup years during the close season.

So, would you be happy if they now scrapped international football? As an alternative, maybe we could only have internationals during the close season. An example, we could have the European Championship in 2012 and qualification during the close season of 2011. The World Cup during 2014 and qualification during 2013 close season. That way, you would have your squad together for longer periods of time, produce (arguably) better international football and not disturb club football.

Rangers are the only football team that matter to me, and it is now such a big industry that club football is enough, IMHO.

I hate the international weeks and Rangers players don't get a break as they all play for Scotland or N. Ireland. I just hope they all come through there pointless matches unscathed and ready to beat Motherwell.

The dreaded "international v club football" debate again.

Why not just bump the last thread on this subject from a month ago, or the one before that, or the one before that, or.........

FWIW, the International Tournaments are good, but I dont like all these breaks through the season to play the games to decide who goes to the big tournaments.

Can we not just have the 8 QF teams from the last tourny, plus a lucky dip for the rest, or one play-off round played 1 week before the tournament starts in the summer to decide who plays. All this messing about with 8-12 game sections, mostly against hopeless opposition like Lithuania and Lichtstenstein, is a complete turn-off and waste of our resources.

As I said in the very first line, that is not my intention. It was offering a possible alternative in restricting internationals to close season.

As for the last paragraph, I agree. I just feel that the whole international thing needs a major shake up and it is no longer as relevant as it used to be.

I hate International football!

It would be good if McGregor, Weir, Broadfoot, McCulloch, Davis, Edu, Lafferty, Naismith, Whittaker, Jelavic, Weiss, Bougherra... all pull out of their games although it will obviously never happen.

10000000% for two reasons.

1. I attend every Scotland game home and away and can't imagine not supporting my country.

2. It's a good break to have also the players can use their confidence for the country. Eg Miller and Naismith

Playing under crap managers (Vogts, Burley, possibly Levein) though can (and has) only affect confidence of our players, who can then return to the club having lost a bit of the spark they had when they left to turn up. Surely it would be better getting some training in at Auchenhowie, working on set pieces, getting proper rest, than running your balls off chasing Czechs and Spaniards about the pitch with no tactical set-up or at best a copied one from Walter's bus-parking manoevers but with replacing McManus for Bougherra and Brown for Davis. Not quite like for like there!

I'm glad you enjoy supporting the country, and wouldnt take that away from anyone who wanted to do so, but really, how do you feel when all you hear is anti-Rangers players bile coming from the majority of the Hamish's in attendance. Or booing the oppo national anthem because it is the same as ours (GB). Or having to stand and be patriotic when the wheel out old Corrie to offend our eardrums with that dirge of a folk tune that has somehow been turned into an anthem.

Like I said, I'm not wanting this to turn in to yet another RFC v Scotland debate, there have been way too many already (although I agree with you!)...

You mention one point that I haven't really thought of before. How it affects the confidence of playing for an International team that may be consistently losing. Do you think that, for example, players could win 7 games on the bounce for us, then lose for Scotland and that take a hit to their confidence? I'm not sure I'm convinced but possibly a valid point.

I think it does happen, and it was noticable under Vogts reign.

Although I think what tends to happen under a crap manager is that the players mostly have "niggling injuries" that while not bad enough to stop them playing for their club, means that they cannot turn up for their country.

Agreed it can possibly work both ways, if some players were struggling for club form and had a stormer for their country, then they come back and play better for their club.

Obviously right now our players are all doing well for the club, so we can only lose from them going away at this time.

Well for the second part I can't agree.

I go with 7 other Rangers Season Ticket Holders and I hardly hear much/any stick tirades Gers fans. It's pretty much an urban myth.

Players have been boo'd if they have been under par. Which happens at Ibrox too.

Also. I like a bit if Flower if Scotland. Gets the heart beating and the adrenaline pumping.

2 of my pals who go had similar views to folk on here. And since the Ukraine game a few years back haven't missed a game and can't keep them away.

I can assure you it is not an urban myth at all. I heard it first hand when I tokk my son to the Switzerland friendly a few years ago, and vowed never to return.

There was a definate agenda, which I had thought was over-egged on forums before experiencing it for myself.

Of course, I might just have been unlucky, or you have been lucky, but either way it cannot be dismissed as a myth, when it comes from so many who have attended these matches over the last decade or so.

How can a monotone drone with questionable lyrics sung badly get your heart beating?? Each to their own regards music appreciation but that "tune" has always done my head in. I used to go to watch the Scottish Claymores American Football team at both Murrayfield and Hampden, and while the crowds were akin to a Timmy league cup tie, they really went overboard on the whole Braveheart thing. Just before the FOS dirge, they played the clip from Braveheart, you know the one "one chance blah blah blah" as well and it actually got the hairs on the back of my neck up......in total embarressment. I got a few looks when I used to sit down just as they asked everyone to stand up for FOS, as I choose not to recognise it as my National Anthem, which is my right as a Scot.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the upcoming games, are able to keep up your amazing record of not hearing the anti-rangers agenda spewing from the stands, and our country get a reasonable set of results.

PS: Tell me you dont wear an unfitting kilt and trainers/Timbys and sing anti-English songs all day. Then I can also dismiss that as an Urban myth.

I do wear a kilt yes and I think it's a fantastic site to see. 15,000 people marching from the Eiffel Tower to the France game was phenomenal.

And. As for the anti English songs. Yes. I definitely sing them. As do most of us Scots!!

I'm not a fan of international football in terms of injury possibilities and 2 weeks without club football, but it's hardly going to be scrapped and it shouldn't be either, international football is part of football's history.

Our players aren't going to have the same attitude as we do, they'll want to be playing for their country and feel proud when they do.
