BlueSuedeSambas 52,672
This Rangers side easily has the most spirit, togetherness & will to win of any Rangers team that I can recall (since I reached an age where I understood what was happening both on and off the park at least) and that's all down to one man, Walter Smith. He might have his detractors among our support, and believe me, I'm not niave enough to ignore his faults I just think the positives far outweigh the negatives.Smith knows what Rangers is all about, what it stands for and just what is needed to make the club as successful as it should be. Not only that, but he also knows the formula to make that happen as well as anybody else.McCoist might be ready to take over, but at this moment in time Walter Smith is the beating heart of Rangers Football Club and I'm dreading the day that he walks out of Ibrox for the final time as manager.Basically what I'm saying is that we can ill afford to lose him and I hope he decides to stay on come the end of the season. bluenose4life 5
I worry about mcoist - looking at the cups, replays, extra time and penalties we have had and against smaller teams. Dont think he is the man for us imo. Smith is the key to our club's sucsess atm...
delamonty 992
Well, if Walter thinks Ally is ready, that's good enough for me. Sir Walter is a massive, massive loss. But, we need to evolve as well.
Amac9 2,060
I'm not niave enough to ignore his faults I just think the positives far outweigh the negatives.I think that sums Walter Smith up perfectly. He does have his faults, like every other manager, but no one can argue with what he has done for Rangers. If we did not have Walter in charge for the past few years we surely would have been in a real bad mess. No other manager could/would have done as good a job as Walter has over the past few years.Unfortunately I can't see him staying on. Hopefully he gets the perfect send off with even more trophies and success to add to his ever growing collection.

delamonty 992
As far as passion goes. Just look at the celebration after the Naisy goal. Walter has plenty of it left.I'm of two minds about Walter remaining in a 'consultant' type role. Ally must sink or swim or his own and having Walter around might not help that. He has had years under Walter now and must become his own man.Walter, however, must remain with the club in some capacity and provide advice to Ally. But only when Ally asks. He is a true living legend who almost single handed kept it all together. And still managed to deliver the league title.Total legend. We've been lucky to have men like Walter, Mr. Struth, Big Jock etc. manage our great club.
simplythebest 11,437
I actually think the only chance of him staying is if we don't win the title. He'll be happy to go out on a high but if we do lose the title i could see him staying on because he won't want to give Lennon that sort of psychological advantage over McCoist. SirWalterSmithLegend 206
I agree, i really dont want Walter going anywhere, i wish he would just stay. If he wins this title, he could go on and do 9 again, maybe more, who knows? Another year of no title and no Europe for Celtic will put us into a position of power and dominance which we havnt seen since the 90's. I really do hope he stays. thebooler 4,509
Walter won't be staying on, and he won't be "moving upstairs" either.Unfortunate, but as others have said, we need to move on.

thebooler 4,509
Whilst some of us might disagree with how Walter sets the team up now and again, what cannot be doubted is his exceptional man management. Every single player that plays under Walter Smith is playing for Walter Smith. There's not many managers in the world of football who demand such respect from their players, and who seem to be able to handle every player and every situation correctly. There's a reason why Walter usually wins. He's a Govan boy.

Big Laff's Dodgy Barnett 20
I am thankful that I have been lucky enough to support Rangers, and also have a manager like thatThe man is a legend and I want to meet him if we win the league this season and leave celtic in a really bad way...I think maybe, just maybe he could stay on and bury them and even go for the big One O
