1st_Jan_1994 4,868
I've been thinking and I reckon there is a lot of similarities.Organisation, strong defence, spirit, not knowing how to get beat etc.Don't get me wrong the 1992/1993 team had many, many more tough tackles like Gough, Brown, Ferguson, McCall, Hateley etc but if we can keep this fantastic run up a bit longer then I'd say they are well and truely on a par.I'm not counting my chickens too soon etc as I know it could go tits up starting at Kilmarnock tommorow but it's a great time to be a Rangers fan at the moment. Grandfather_Huck 5
We're not going to end up one game from the Champions League final like in 1993, but there are similarities yesIt's good to have the 'don't know when we're beaten' spirit back. We lost that for 5-6 years
1st_Jan_1994 4,868
We're not going to end up one game from the Champions League final like in 1993, but there are similarities yesI didn't mean that. It was a different set up, in a different time when it was the champions and champions only of each country. That's the only way any of the Old Firm could have that sort of joy in the Champions League again if it went back to that format.
cwoodloyal 34
i said the same thing in a thread the other week, that this team is like the 92-93 team, never know when they're beat and score goals for fun.
Maccy90 0
You're absolutely right about the tough tackling bit. Not nearly enough bite in our midfield currently, although that said I think Davis has turned out to be a right wee terrier this season, pressing the opposition more. At the Valencia game last week though, there were a few times where Edu and co pulled out of a few tackles, when the likes of Ian Ferguson would have actually eaten the opposition. It terms of spirit and work ethic, the current side are second to none.In Walter We Trust. J_RFC87 704
It's always great to be a Teddy Bear, but the feeling at the moment is a little bit special. Thi team have still got a bit to prove that they're anywhere near the class of 92/93, a solid run in Europe and the laegue title would help!Loved the above Ian Ferguson comment, imagine we had Ian in the team at the moment; crushing tims by the dozen
mairydilk 22
The way things are going, Naismith will take Gough, Brown, Ferguson, McCall & Hateley on at the same time and win.
The Hammer 11 2,398
Theres just something about this team and players the way the carry themselves and play some of them have developed a real nasty snarling attitude towards the opposition refusing to get beat naismiths a prime example of this guys like weiss seem to be toughening up as well its exactly what we need
baltic_blue 108
very similar fighting spirit in the two teams. The 92/93 team were far better though but i wouldnt be surprised if the current team would give them a good game with the way Smith plays the team now. If he had the same experience he has now we would have won the Champions league that season in my opinion.
DarcheVinny 1,003
too young to remember 92-93 but pops kept me well informed, we're going all the way this year. wembley here i come.
MisterC 11,805
Was thinking about this in the past few days as well and possibly even posted something on here about it. There is that grit, desire and never say die attitude that was present in that great team and while individually the players may not be as good as they were back then there is a collective spirit that will serve us well. I have said it before and I will say it again, I have a hunch Walters last hurrah will be a memorable one for the right reasons

BeautifulSeas 10
The way things are going, Naismith will take Gough, Brown, Ferguson, McCall & Hateley on at the same time and win.I'm going to assume that was a joke. Naismith has been awesome this season but we have only played 9 games and been very ordinary before that! You are comparing him to some legends of the club! simplythebest 11,437
Don't remember it, but the quality of the squad was much greater then than now, easy to tell just by looking. The team now punches above it's weight in a lot of ways due to excellent team work and experience.
