Nikica Jelavic's hard work is paying off with striker set for quick return.

NIKICA Jelavic has handed Rangers a boost by insisting he's on course to be back before the end of the year.

The Croatian international was looking an exciting prospect for the Ibrox side after signing for £4 million in August.

However, he suffered ankle ligament damage after a tackle from Hearts midfielder Ian Black in a match at Tynecastle earlier this

month. But the former Rapid Vienna striker has revealed he is delighted with his recovery and expects to be back playing for Rangers next month.

Jelavic said: "I work hard every single day, from morning to night. The only time I stop is to go home for lunch. Now I am slowly beginning to stretch the ankle and soon I will let off my crutches.

"Then I will get back training again. I expect to be back playing before the start of the new year.

"The hardest part of being a footballer is when you are not playing. When I got my injury, the club asked me where I wanted to do my rehabilitation and what doctors I wanted to see. And, after speaking with them, I decided to go to Croatia because I have recovered from injuries there before successfully.

"But I know my target: I want to come back at the top and not have to look at more surgery in a year, or something."

Jelavic has been thrilled at the progress made by his team-mates in his absence.

He said: "We got a point against Valencia in the last game of the Champions League, but we should have won because we missed two open goals.

"It is important we don't lose our next game in Valencia because our final match is away to Bursaspor and we would have a real chance of qualifying."

Meanwhile, Rangers manager Walter Smith has told defender Andy Webster to be patient and wait for his chance in the first-team.

Webster has put his injury troubles behind him, but has struggled to force his way into boss Smith's plans, making just one appearance so far this season in the 7-2 Cooperative Insurance Cup victory over Dunfermline Athletic.

Smith said: "This is the longest spell he has had fit for us, but, unfortunately for him, the team has been playing exceptionally well and it's difficult for him to get a regular game. He will get an opportunity in this game.

"It's slightly awkward when we have been playing with roughly the same team to bring in lads who have maybe not had a lot of games."

GREAT news!

he'll be a really useful return when he makes it back, xmas schedule is always hectic, if kenny hits a dry spell, which might or might not happen, will be great to have him available as well. as long as said above, he isnt rushing and too keen to return to his own detriment

That was a good read and I hope it is correct because Jelavic would have a field day against those central defenders of the filth....Unless Loovens decided to do an Edu on him.

The bit about Webster didn't quite come out the way Walter wanted it though. doh(td)

However much id love to see him the tims a new arsehole (for the 3rd time in his career) I dont want him to have first game back against them. Stokes, Samaras, Ki and Loovens have proven that they are all dirty, cheating bastards, so i could see that wee ginger prick telling one of them to go in hard on Jelly and put him out again for another couple of months.

Another reason why i want him back early tbh. Give him 3 0r 4 games before playing the Gary Glitter chosen 11, make sure he is fully fit and his ankle has fully recovered. Then watch him rip them apart.

In the meantime, when we get Hearts at Ibrox, Walter should tell Big Lee that to give that wee cunt Ian Black an Ibrox welcome, the Kaiser style of course. Get that dirty wee cunt back for the worst tackled id seen until Stokes.

How can the tims complain about referees when ive just mentioned 5 players that should have been sent of us against us?
