Rangers Link with Aston Villa

I was at the derby game today between Aston Villa and Birmingham (Bluenose end of course) as I'm fortunate enough to be a guest of one of the brum players every week.

Great atmoshpere and a real temper flaring tie, as these two hate each other.

I saw an Ulster Flag in the top tier of the main stand with a union jack in the top left hand corner, the villa and what looked like the gers emblem on the top right and something along the lines of Aston "something" Loyal in the bottom left hand corner.

Now I wasn't aware of any links between the two clubs or Villa and Ulster.

Can anyone shed any light on this???

Cheers

There will be little pockets of fans of every club with leanings either towards us or the tims, dont think there is any great tie in, maybe exists because i did read somewhere the Villa founder was a Scottish Gers fan, hence the lion rampant, dont know if there is any truth in it though.

Hmmm thats quite interesting thanks for the replies.

Its something I was never aware of!

Was speaking to a few Brum fans and they all say the same that Ferguson was a bargain at £1m and has done a great job for them. I can say the same from wathing him most weeks.

Before all the Fergie hate brigade come out, I'm just saying what the Brum fans were saying today.

Villa however have a nice wee stadium good atmoshpere and well worth a visit to a derby match!

Correct. Also another similarity between the two - We have "Ready" and they have "Prepared" on their emblem...if you catch my drift.

:21: Hello Bears

A wee answer that I think might be of use I stayed in Birmingham for about 12 years and went to see BCFC.

In my experience working in the Building Trade and worked in different parts of the city a large part of the Southern Irish(which there is a lot of)favoured AVFC not that I'm saying there were no prods followed AVFC but the majority of punters I met followed followed the Blues and had Rangers Leanings.

The Blues have Scottish links like Villa when I was young growing up in Springburn AVFC sponsored Possil Boys Club there kit was Claret & Blue.

But the Blues have an anthem like our Follow Follow " Keep Right On to the End of the Road" a song by Harry Lauder but adopted by a Blues player Glasweigan Alex Govan who played for Bridgeton Boys Club later was picked up by Plymouth and later signed for the Blues.

Like one of the other posts most English clubs have pockets of either Rangers or Tims Millwall/Chelsea/Liverpool/Everton etc etc

Watch the Blues on the tele try to get to StAndrews(another Scottish connection) but the Bears are always the priority when visitingn the wife's family try and get to StAndrews.

No comment on our result Saturday

Remember this well. The pitch invasion was after a massive tricolour came out in the visitors end!!!

Yes the visitors end of the ground. There was that many bears at the game we had the home end. It wasnt flying for long though, wave apon wave of us came charging on. By the time our front line reached the half way mark their end was empty(and I mean empty). It was like something out of a David Copperfield show and they certainly could put the Subway Loyal to shame

The flag was ours - Villa Loyal. Youre right there are factions of Bears and Tims at most English clubs. Villa have a very strong loyalist leaning even though there is an Irish following but the same will go for BCFC. We get up to Ibrox about 6 times a year with the Stoke RSC bus. Things are better for us now O'Neil has fucked off
