Win or you're sacked!

MARK McGHEE has 90 minutes to save his skin after Saturday's Parkhead humiliation.

The Aberdeen boss MUST beat Inverness tomorrow night or he'll be sacked.

McGhee and his Dons flops were still reeling yesterday after the record-busting 9-0 defeat by Celtic.

And now Aberdeen chiefs will wield the axe if McGhee's nightmare run continues against the Highlanders at Pittodrie.

Defiant McGhee refused to quit after Saturday's horror show and board members decided not to bin him ahead of the crucial showdown with Terry Butcher's men.

The Gothenburg legend took training yesterday and held a talk-in to thrash out the reasons behind the worst result in the club's history.

But despite McGhee's bullish attitude after the nine-goal thumping, it's understood chairman Stewart Milne and his directors ARE ready to call time on his disastrous 17-month reign.

It will cost over £400,000 to axe McGhee, No2 Scott Leitch and goalie coach Colin Meldrum but Dons chiefs fear they can't afford to wait much longer.

McGhee has won just 17 of his 58 matches and Dons go into tomorrow's clash on a run of one win - and four points - from their last NINE SPL fixtures.

That and plunging attendances at a club still several million pounds in debt means time is fast running out for McGhee.

A Pittodrie insider said: "Mark remains in charge and the players are getting ready for Tuesday but everyone's shell-shocked. I can't see how he could survive if the team don't beat Caley. Everyone in football realises the consequences.

"I don't think the manager is under any illusions about what's happening, but it takes a lot to sort things out.

"Tuesday's game takes on fairly monumental proportions and there's also the fact that we will probably get the lowest crowd for a home SPL game in a long time."

In Dons' history, only Alex Miller has a worse winning record than McGhee. Now only a win over Caley can save him.
