Lucas Leiva

Just wanted to gather some thoughts on the form of Lucas at Liverpool this season?

He's a player that Rafa Benitez got a lot of stick for being so loyal too, including on here. Given his relatively young age i always felt the critisism of him was perhaps a bit harsh, a lot of it was probably based on comparing him to the world class midfield partnership of Alonso and Mascherano.

I now think Lucas has actually come on leaps and bounds recently. He isn't an Alonso or Mascherano but i think he's a very good peformer, he wasn't as bad as made out last season while Aquilani spent most of the season injured. A display against Chelsea which was very argueably the man of the match peformance IMO summed up a good season for Lucas so far which has been him become a regular fixture in the senior Brazil squad and seen Roy Hodgson drop his £4.5 million summer signing, Christian Poulsen, for him.

At 23 Lucas can still get better so he's someone i think Liverpool should really hang onto.

He's like Darren Fletcher, minus the goal threat

Putrid

He couldn't lace Darren Fletcher's boots!

Lucas will never hit the level of performances Fletcher did in 2007/2008.

He came over from Gremio as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Campeonato and I don't think we've seen him play in that position more than three times for Liverpool.

I have a degree of sympathy for him, however, there's still no excusing some of the basics he appears to lack.

He seems like he's improved because he's learned how to pass 5 yards, but even then he still can't manage to reach his man all the time, he's absolutely shite, he's got a smug-looking face as well, one you would never get tired of punching.

The Liverpool fans seem to think he's suddenly turned into a world class player this season because he's slightly improved  fanny's.

I still wouldn't see him as an attacking midfielder.

I was right into my Brazilian football at the time through Bravo and a few very high quality streams.

Although he did actually stand out in that Gremio side, an attacking midfielder has time to take a touch, turn, look up and decide what to do in that the Campeonato before someone tries to take the ball of you.

You get about a tenth of a second in Britain before someone slices you in half, so I'm not surprised he hasn't fitted in.

Improved, but needs to improve further if hes to become a decent midfielder for Liverpool, better than Poulsen though, although that's not saying much. Anyone else think Raul Meiriles (sp?) has been looking good for Liverpool? looks a quality acquisition by Hodgson.

I have been disapointed in him TBH, have always rated him but he just hasnt seemed to hit top form yet. Quite often his passing is woeful and he makes the wrong choices. I expect him to come good soon enough though.

From what i have seen of him so far, i liked the look of him, hes been bright and attacking, full of energy and running everywhere, i thought he had a great game vs Chelsea, but then, the whole team raised themselves for that game, i like the look of him and hope he can notch his form up a gear or two and become a true quality player, Liverpool need to have players they can rely on should Torres/Gerrard be out for whatever reason.

Yeah he is willing and always wants to be amongst the action. I though he had a cracking World Cup so maybe I was expecting a bit too much from him. Like you say its good to have quality players like that as last season/season before when Gerrard or Torres were out the team really struggled, hopefully that wont be the case should it happen again.

Still think hes average at best. The same as most Liverpool signings in recent seasons. They bring in mediocre players to replace quality.

Dossena, Degen, N'Gog, Lucas, Meiereles, Poulsen,, Cavalieri etc..

Then there's players I dont think should be in what was a top 4 team but people seem to rate them e.g Benayoun, Kuyt, Aurelio & Arbeloa. Yet Real Madrid sign him  Also dont get the hype over Reina.

The sell Alonso, Mascherano, Hyppia and replace them with average dross. Its no wonder they have declined so rapidly. And I like Liverpool (tu)
