We have had our best start to a season in years beaten once to Valencia away, we should be full of confidence to claim fear of losing our edge and hes worried seems bizarr to me. I dont think he should be coming out with this.

Mind games.Come on how many years has Walter been manager. He never comes out with boasts and bravado. He always comes out with sobering comments to keep expectations down and also to keep the players on their toes.

The only criticism i would have of Smith is that at 3-0 up against St Mirren he could have used more subs and therefore alleviated some of the problems he is talking about.

Double edged sword Walter....keep on playing the same players and the problems you speak of will only get worse.

cant question his way, well maybe the odd thing but cmon, nothing in this that merits any criticism for the guy, maybe he wants a reaction from the players

Only thing i can criticise is we could have a repeat of 2008 season and walter should have learned from it and we had a bigger squad 2 years ago. 3-0 up on sunday he could have rested a couple of players who are playing with injurys if he dosnt give the youngsters a game 3-0 up against St Mirren then fuck knows.

<anager is just being honest - dammed if he does speak dammed if he doesn't - do you only want him to give you the positives or do you want to hear just a little about his issues ? all he is doing is highlighting an issue (and a rallying the squad, the board and the fans) now if the fans could support for 90 min in the way we expect the players to play that might help walter!

MAYBE Walter should have thrown on some younger players to give our key players a break when we were 3-0 up against Saint Mirren but no-one knows his players individually or collectively better than Walter Smith so I accept his judgement that it was better to keep the players on the field to make sure of all 3 points.

IF he had thrown on 3 younger players and Saint Mirren had sneaked a draw we would be giving the gaffer pelters right now.

I will always view it differently and say that if that had happened with 8 experienced first team players on the park then the entire team should get a boot in the balls not Smith. Not only that but it would indicate serious failings in the young players should that have happened.

As it stands i don't think there was a snowballs chance in hell of that happening against a piss poor St Mirren team.

Especially if the changes were made in non vital areas like midfield or out wide.

I reckon Walter is just saying it like it is. Most of us have recognised a dip in form over the last couple of weeks and anyone from other clubs will have noticed also. Perhaps he shouldn't be so public about it but I have questioned Walter so many times in the past and been proved wrong. Whatever his reasons lets hope that tonight sees a return of form

this is just classic walter

we could all try and say what we as individuals think walter could do better/different. i have caught myself doing it....eg. playing youngsters a bit more often, or making substitutions quicker (the previous 2 are examples of what i have caught myself saying).

but at the end of the day, i wouldnt want to swap any of the trophies he has won, the memories he has given me in favour of doing more of the above.

Yet Edu is quoted in the papers today as saying no chance of burnout with him and occasionally you read from others like Millar saying they would rather play than train. Maybe Walter does have a concern and is seeing it before it happens but against that I like many others would like to see him give some of these fringe players a chance when we have games won or with 20-30 minutes left.If he doesnt then my big worry is that through injury/suspension he has to start a few and they havent been properly blooded.

Because you can't just magic in good youth players... and he's got to work with what he's got.

He's been the same throughout his whole managerial career. This has nothing to do with not having good youngsters, it is about him not trusting them until injury and/or suspension forces his hand. Danny Wilson was a perfect example of this.

His claims of only having a small group and being unable to change things are of his own making. If he doesn't have faith in the fringe players, why the fuck are they there?

You’re talking shit. It’s about a difference in quality and experience.

We have a small group due to the lack of finances. The so called fringe players you are on about do not have SPL level experience; it’s a catch 22 though unless you play them how are they going to get the experience required at this level.

There is a massive difference to having a Mendes and a Davis in midfield with the likes of Thomson, McCulloch and Edu on the bench to bring on and change things. This season we have young players who are in their last year of an apprenticeship at Murray Park. Hutton, Fleck,Wylde and probably Little who is slightly more experienced to the previous 3 ??????

Do you think we can afford to experiment week in week out?

Okay I will put it in Military terms for you:

A full screw that passes the PSBC with no Ops tours as the PL Sgt does not have the same experience of a CSgt DS at the Infantry Battle School who has 3 Ops tours as the PL Sgt under his belt, and in his last few months in Brecon looking for a CSM job in the Regiment?

Hope you get the point - get off Walters back.
