Derek Adams joins Hibs as Assistant Manager

Derek Adams has quit as manager of Ross County to become assistant to Colin Calderwood at Hibernian.

Former Inverness and Dundee United boss Craig Brewster, who has been assistant to Adams, will take temporary charge of the First Division team.

Adams told Hibs' website: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to come to a club of the stature of Hibernian.

"I've had three magnificent years at Ross County and leave there with a sense of pride."

Adams, whose father George remains director of football at Victoria Park, led County to promotion to Division One in 2008 and to the Scottish Cup final in May.

And the 35-year-old had himself been linked with managers jobs in the Scottish Premier League, including the one at Easter Road, before Calderwood was chosen to succeed John Hughes.

"The club made great progress over that period, but it's now time for both Ross County and me to look forward to the next phase," said Hibs' new assistant.

County and Hibs had reached agreement over the release of Adams, leaving the Dingwall outfit to begin their search for a new manager.

Brewster has been the main man in the dugout for some time as Adams has one game left of a six-match touchline suspension to run and has lodged an appeal against a further ban imposed for "excessive misconduct".

But Calderwood was looking forward to having the former Aberdeen, Burnley, County, Motherwell and Livingston midfielder by his side in Edinburgh.

"I'm delighted to have secured Derek's services and now feel that we have an extremely strong group of coaches at the club," he said.

"I have been hugely impressed by Derek's achievements at Ross County and also saw in his Ross County team the type of organisation and dynamism that I want to see at Hibernian."

County chairman Roy MacGregor was full of praise for Adams during his time with the club.

"I would like to thank Derek for all his hard work and leadership during his spell as Ross County manager," he told his club website.

"He ensured a place of honour in the club's history by taking us to the Scottish Cup final last season and his tenure has also seen success in the Scottish Football League, including promotion to the First Division in 2008.

"As a board, our priority now is to identify the right candidate to help lead this ambitious club to the next level."
