Davie Weir was at the louden last night apparently for a Q+A session.

One guy asked him

What does it mean for you to be Rangers captain?

To whch Davie answered

Everything, I purposely drive by Ibrox and look up and think wow, Im part of that, it makes me very proud! :praise:

That to me sums the guy up. What a classy classy individual who has been inspirtational since signing for Rangers. If only we bought you when you left Hearts big man :praise:

David Weir, like Richard Gough, Tiger Shaw, George Young, David Meiklejohn, Eric Caldow et al. is for me the embodiment of what the Captain of The Rangers Football Club should be.

Very true.

I was not imopressed at all when we first signed him but it didn't take him long to become one of my favourite players. The man just oozes class.

Albertz isn't a legend? I'm guessing you can't remember the guy? Albertz is a Rangers legend and rightly so.

Depends on your definition of legend

Albertz was more of a cult figure than a legend. Wasn't a particularly great footballer, but had a magnificent shot on him, and had a happy knack of scoring regularly against the Tims. This isn't enough for legendary status though imo

Disagree, Albertz was a legend without a doubt IMO. Amoruso was more of a cult figure.

Albertz, like Nacho Novo for example, isn't remembered because he was an amazing player. He wasn't. He is remembered because of some of the goals he scored, and the regularity with which he scored against Celtic. This for me equals cult hero, though i guess i didn't make the word so everyone can debate it

If Davie Weir doesn't qualify as a legend what the fuck does? He's the only player in that sqad who would have got anywhere near any of the great Rangers teams(at his peak as age would probably be against that). Possibly shagger too but he wouldn't have got a game ahead of Goram or Woods.

As for Albertz, he was a fantastic player, great passer, great vision and obviously that shot. His only drawback in my opinion was that he was a bit lazy and a bit powder puff in a 50/50.

I'd have him on par with someone like Albertz or Amoruso

Not quite a legend

Albertz isn't a legend!!! Are you serious!

Did you ever see him when he was at ibrox!

Regarding the OP and Weir! Total respect tae Davie, I get the butterflies eveytime I walk up to ibrox on match day, so I can only imagine what it would be like to be the captain of the Gers!

No Surrender Davie Weir

Personally i don't believe that Weir would've got into any of the great Rangers teams, regardless of his age. You have to remember the standard of today's SPL in comparison to the one faced by the centre halves of our past. Would he have ousted Gough or Butcher? Absolutely no chance imo. It's like people who put Steven Davis in their greatest Rangers XI. He wouldn't have even made our bench 20 years ago.
