RANGERS will today complete the signing of loan striker David Healy.

The Sunderland hitman, who has just finished a temporary spell at Doncaster Rovers, will finalise his deal ahead of tomorrow night’s transfer deadline.

And Ibrox manager Walter Smith is desperately trying to add one more player to his depleted squad with the hope he can attract a defender.

Rangers go into today’s Co-operative Cup semi-final against Motherwell at Hampden today, and are also in contention for the title, Scottish Cup tie and face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League next month.

Smith said: “We have needed to get someone in and that became especially important after Kenny Miller left.

“David will bring something new to the squad.”

Healy, 31, is Northern Ireland’s all-time top goalscorer with 35 goals, and in 2007 he notched 13 goals in his country’s European Championship qualifying campaign

Don't want to shoot him down in flames before he has even pulled on the shirt but is anyone actually excited by this?

Fair enough he'll play for the shirt but so does Laff and only after 3 seasons are we finally seeing a bit of something.

Healy:-

Can you recapture that form?

Is your best behind you?

Are you beattie in disguise?

Who at Rangers has seen him play well in last 3 years?

Rangers, why are we spending money when we are obviously up shit creek?

To win the league granted but will he help?

Answer: Fuck knows...

Dear Mr Healy make me eat my words .

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

Rangers sign David Healy on loan

Published Date: 30 January 2011

By Tom English

Rangers' travails in the transfer market reached some kind of conclusion last night with the signing, on loan, of David Healy, the 31-year-old Northern Ireland striker. Healy, the leading scorer in his country's history with 35 in his 84 games, will remain at Ibrox until the end of the season.

He is not the name that Rangers fans would have been hoping for. Nor, indeed, is he the man that Walter Smith had anywhere near the top of his wish-list, but he is as good as they are going to get considering their powder-puff clout in the transfer

market. Healy is a Sunderland player but he is so far out of the picture at the Stadium of Light that this is his third loan spell away from the place. He spent a period at Ipswich and has been playing for Doncaster of late. He has scored five times in two years, a statistic that will do nothing to ease the concerns of Rangers people in this critical stage of the season.

Healy's career has been a strange one. He became an icon in his homeland when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over England in World Cup qualifier in September 2005 and became something of a God when he carried on banging in the goals for his country in the subsequent European championship qualifiers. He scored a hat-trick in a storied 3-3 draw with Spain in September 2006 and finished that qualification series with 13 goals, an all-time record.

Once - but no longer - consistent for Northern Ireland he has not measured up as a club player, be it in the Premiership with Fulham and Sunderland, or on loan in the lower leagues. His contract at Sunderland expires in the summer and the hope, for Rangers fans, is that the approaching uncertainty in his professional life is going to galvanise him into rediscovering some past glory. Blind faith, it would seem, is the only option as far as the Ibrox faitful are concerned. Not that they needed any reminding, but they are shopping in the bargain basement this transfer window.

I'm not one for posting rubbish but I was told earlier by someone who knows the player quite well that Healy is not far away from joining.

I know this has been doing the rounds for the past 3 years but the source is a credible one. Time will tell though.

Great post mate :)

Hopefully a few apologises came your way

DAVID HEALY is thrilled finally to be a Rangers player - 17 YEARS after a trial at Ibrox.

The striker, 31, has signed for the season after securing his Sunderland release.

He was at Hampden to watch his new team beat Motherwell 2-1 and is in line to make his debut when Hearts visit Ibrox on Wednesday night.

And he can't wait to play alongside his Northern Ireland team-mates Steven Davis and Kyle Lafferty.

He said: "Davo is from a similar back-ground, he and his family are Gers fans.

"He's managed to realise the dream and I must admit I was always a bit jealous when Davo, Kyle and others joined the club.

"I'd always say 'I wish that was me one day' and thankfully my time has arrived.

"Hopefully I can do the job the manager, Ally, Kenny, and Durranty want me to do. I want to impress them, the fans and the board and hopefully I can stay a bit longer.

"I had a trial with Rangers when I was 14 but I couldn't sign as I was too young.

"But it's been well documented that I am a Rangers fan. My dad comes on the boat to games with friends so it's a boyhood dream for me.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be here.

"I hope my debut comes at Ibrox. I've been to the stadium many times as a fan but to play on the hallowed turf would be very special."

Boss Walter Smith said: "He's an out-and-out goalscorer.

"He's keen to come and we're delighted to have him. We need that type of player in around the box"
