The only redeeming feature of what are damning match stats, is that despite celtic being allowed possession they did not capitalise on it.

30% possession, at home, against ten men. And still some claim that we don't have a problem!

I think this is the most damning statistic of the lot though

Rangers Midfield - 94 passes (89.5%) , 12 tackles (70.6%)

Rangers Attack - 2 passes (50.0%) , 4 tackles (80.0%)

Celtic Midfield - 280 passes (94.9%) , 12 tackles (70.6%)

Celtic Attack - 28 passes (87.5%) , 0 tackles (0.0%)

308 passes to 96

Yup that shows our midfield is simply brilliant the way it is set up :rolleyes:

They would still be embarrassing if we had been playing with ten men against Barcelona, in the Camp Nou.

Embarrassingly!

Alarm bells must be ringing at Ibrox. How can we continue to claim a better squad with statistics like that, in out own back yard.

The stats do not tell the full story that's why, we set out to frustrate and hit on the break thus surrendering possession.

We should have went for their throats.

I think this is an interesting stat:

Rangers Defence - 8 tackles (72.7%)

Celtic with 70.7% of over all possession our defence still only had to make 8 tackles. Just shows that any team can look good and enjoy a high percentage of possession passing the ball around the half way line.

Whatever the statistics are it just highlights what we already knew - that we lost the midfield battle with woeful ineptitude to a disadvantaged side, seemingly as a result of both sitting in and failing to pressure our opponents.

Clearly this is not an end of the world scenario and can be remedied to a large extent with a simple attitude adjustment; OK so we're not going to become a creative engine overnight but we'd have more chances and the enemy less.

Let the backlash commence.

I think stats can always be used to show what you want to say either way, Funny thing is on clear chances we were out infront Davis hitting the bar the jelavic pass that just went by Davis toes.

We surrendered possession to hit on the break any of the chances we missed had went in Smith would be being hailed a tactical genius.

Their full-backs saw more of the ball than our three midfielders. Ach, there is no need in passing the ball when you can just lump it up the park.

We don't exactly need to see the stats, it's just more shameful and depressing reading. We see more or less the same each game, yet the manager does nothing about it.

The gutless, negative, cautious approach must stop!

Are OPTA anti-Smith now or did the op doctor them?

Just inaccurate.

Jelavic clearly made one more than one pass, which puts the rest of the figures in doubt.

He played Naismith through for the penalty and set up Davis to hit the bar.

He also brought the ball down with the inside of his foot, took a touch and released it out onto the right for Davis to run on to...

There is 3 already.

Again, we don't really need the stats, especially ones that are inaccurate in some areas. You don't have to be an expert to see where it's going wrong.

As you say he must have did more than that i remember him holding the ball up well without any real support, For me even in a poor game you can see Jelavic is going to be a player for us.

Who needs someone beside him.

No point in him doing all his work outside the box, coming deep, drifting out wide or trying to hold up the ball... only for no-one to be supporting him.

Get Healy or Diouf up there with him.

The stats say he made three passes.

The stats say he completed 1 pass, it doesn't take a mathematician to see that this is false.
