MarcoNegri9 0
Whats the story regarding this traitor. He pulled out the Irish squad for last night game and then the interview on skyasks James Mcarthur if Mccarthy is gonna switch back to Scotland...............Thought he already had a Irish cap though? Anyone shed any light on this?

G.Linton 107
At the age of fifteen, McCarthy opted to play for the Republic of Ireland;[11] he was eligible through his family links to Annagry, County Donegal, and he made a promise to his dying grandfather to do so.[12][13] However, McCarthy also claimed that he would have played for Scotland if they had offered him an international call-up first.[11] Despite multiple attempts to persuade McCarthy to switch his allegiance to the country of his birth, he reaffirmed his decision to play for the Republic of Ireland.[13][14]Think that above is all you need to know....he won't switch! TheFallenParadise 7
McCarthy received his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland national squad in February 2010, for a friendly with Brazil played in London.[21] He made his debut as a substitute, replacing Stoke City's Liam Lawrence after 70 minutes.[22]

Thiago Motta switched to Italy not long ago, even though he had a friendly for Brazil under his belt

Boab 73
I thought he played vs Brazil at the emirates. It wouldn't be competitive, vs Brazil.
TheFallenParadise 7
I doubt it'll make much a difference to Leveins midfield no matter what he does.
KERRZO 5
Im sure it has to be a competitive game before there is no going back but I may be wrong, the rule changes all the time.
Jamie1807 146
Of course friendly games count. He can't play for Scotland anymore, he's an ROI international now.
supermac 115
It wouldn't be competitive, vs Brazil.Do Scotland even want him now? Sure he's talented but do you not want players who are 100% committed or does it not matter anymore
Jamie1807 146
It wouldn't be competitive, vs Brazil. It will still be a FIFA recognised match
MarcoNegri9 0
I'd rather see a born and bred Scot like McCarthy represent us than someone like Commons. He was 15 when he made his original decision, and it was his dying grandfather's wish by the look of things.....can anyone honestly say they can't understand why he made his choice back then?I would reluctantly take him back if he decided he wanted to play for Scotland. He's starting to look good at Wigan. But Trap 'o toni will prob bring him off the bench in the next qualifier's and that'll be the end of it.
MisterC 12,737
It was a friendly so he can come and play for Scotland. Doubt this will happen but if he does decide to choose Scotland then he will have a lot to prove and personally I would be against it.
KERRZO 5
Dont understand why he would want to comeback but the boy is outstanding IMO. If we can get him back then do it

the brown brogue 1,961
Well if as a young boy who didn't know any better he had his entire family piling pressure onto him to play for ROI and has now realised it would be a mistake and wants to play for the country of his birth rather than that of his grandfathers then I dont have a problem with this.
