Danny Wilson in the Sunday Times

Sorry I can't find the article online and link it but in todays Sunday Times Sport supplement Danny Wilson gives his appraisal over his future and past.

Right at the start of the interview he states his views on Lemmon's recent attempt to prise him away from Anfield.

Quote: "It's just stupid isn't it? After being associated with Rangers for so long, I was there from the age of nine, it was never on the cards.....No, that was never going to happen. Never. I have no interest in going to Celtic."

Now I'm a massive fan of his and although a massive loss the potential rise in his transfer fee has lessoned the blow of losing quite frankly one of Scotland's hottest properties. In addition quotes such as this show how respect we should all have for him.

Lets all hope he makes it and we get the £5m!

Danny Wilson: I had no interest in making stupid loan move to Celtic

Feb 13 2011 Scott Mcdermott, Sunday Mail

DANNY WILSON insists he would have been STUPID to join Celtic on loan last month.

The former Rangers kid, who moved to Liverpool for s2million in the summer, was wanted by Hoops manager Neil Lennon when he faced a defensive crisis.

Celtic spoke to the Reds about taking Wilson on loan but the bid was rejected by gaffer Kenny Dalglish, who was instrumental in taking the 19-year-old to Merseyside.

Now the defender has spoken for the first time about why moving to Celtic was NEVER an option.

He said: "My reaction when I heard Celtic had asked about a loan was like everyone else's. It's just stupid, isn't it?

"After being associated with Rangers for so long - I was there from age nine - it was never on the cards.

"I have no interest in going to Celtic. Would I have gone to another club on loan? Maybe.

"But after speaking to the manager he doesn't really want me to go anywhere. That was good to hear."

Wilson is enjoying life under legend Dalglish, who replaced Roy Hodgson in January. He's now determined to show he's worthy of a place in the starting line-up after playing just three times for the top team this term.

He said: "Kenny is a huge figure at Liverpool. He got instant respect as soon as he walked in the door.

"He's happy with how I've been performing in training. If an opportunity arises he won't hesitate to put me in."

Wilson won his second Scotland cap in midweek against Northern Ireland. And Craig Levein has admitted he expects Wilson and teenage Blackburn star Grant Hanley to be his future defensive pairing.

That's music to Wilson's ears as he played alongside Hanley at Murray Park.

He said: "It gave me great encouragement to hear Craig say that about us.

"I played with Grant when we were nine at Rangers. We were defenders even as kids."

Anfield No.2 Steve Clarke is pleased to see Wilson getting a chance with Scotland and believes it will help his Liverpool career.

Clarke said: "It's a fantastic honour to get picked by your country. That's Danny's reward for all his hard work."

Danny Wilson is a very good player and unbelievably professional for his age.

I wish him all the best in achieving all he can in his career.

Celtic fan or not, he gave 100% in every game he played for Rangers. That's all you can ask for.

He might have been raised a Catholic, but he knows what side of the fence he supports when it comes to football.

It's ironic that he comes under the tutorage of Kenny Dalglish who was a mad Rangers supporter and signed for the filth because his dad advised him that he would end up a better footballer under Stein.

I'll bet that if it had been Walter that asked, Danny Wilson would have said yes, if Dalglish said he could go on loan.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Danny Wilson back playing at Ibrox in the future as a Rangers player.

Nonsense

If Celtic had made an offer and Dalglish had told him it would be good for his development, does anyone really believe he would've said no because i used to play for Rangers?

Dalglish as much as anyone knows how easily the Rangers Celtic divide can be crossed

He also knows the pressure ans detriment it would have on a young players career.

Way way way off the mark there Ozblue, I got to know Kenny when he stayed at the flats at the old Albion training ground in Broomloan Rd and used to go to some of the games with him as we both played football. He even went when he broke into the mhanks side for the first timE and he was never ever asked to sign or have a trail for the RANGERS, they tried him 5 times then BJK went to his house and asked him did he want to be a joiner or try for a football career, his room was covered in RANGERS photos and once during a reserve game at IBROX another good blue nose Davie Armour (RIP) played against him and said Kenny what about the crowd siging the sash and he sang it on the park to Davie.

He was is and still a RANGERS man if push came to shove WATP

In all due respect, ED, I'm not way off the mark at all. I know Kenny wasn't asked by Rangers at any time to come for a trial and I know all about him having his Rangers posters on the wall of his bedroom, and I also know that he remained a Rangers supporter when he signed for the mhanks.

What I said was that Dalglish joined the scum because his Dad advised him to do so because he would be taught football better under Stein than any other manager, which is a true story. I read an article written by Dalglish many years ago about the events that led to him joining them and this is what he said..."Because I was a mad Rangers supporter,I didn't know what to do because what if I signed for Celtic and then Rangers came after me? My Father told me that even if Rangers belatedly came asking me to join them, I would be better going to Celtic as Stein would make me a better player and that I'd get more chance at Celtic than I would at Rangers being a young lad."

So that being the case, mate! I can't see where my previous post was wide of the mark.
