Celtic midfielder Marc Crosas set to join FC Volga to kickstart career

• Popular Spaniard wants regular first-team football

• Celtic agree £300,000 transfer, plus sell-on clause

The Celtic midfielder Marc Crosas is on the verge of joining the Russian side FC Volga. Celtic will receive £300,000 for the former Barcelona player, with a sell-on clause likely to be part of the deal.

Crosas, 23, has struggled to make an impact at Parkhead, with his last competitive start coming 11 months ago. The Spaniard has, however, remained a popular figure among the Celtic support.

Crosas has been keen to leave to kickstart his career with regular first-team football. The timing of the Russian transfer window has allowed such a move to take place.

Volga, who were promoted to Russia's top flight in November, are based in Nizhny Novgorod, the country's fourth largest city after Moscow, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk.

Celtic's need to move on players who are not part of Neil Lennon's long-term plans has been heightened by what the chairman, John Reid, described as "disappointing" financial results. The club's bank debt has increased to £9.1m with an overall profit of £7.1m in the six months to 31 December due mainly to the £9.5m sale of Aiden McGeady to Spartak Moscow.

Remember the hype surrounding this tool once he joined?

"Barcelona didn't want him to leave!"

Laughable. Also, the last paragraph is a further reminder of how shit will hit the fan financially for Celtic if they don't win the league this year. Moreso, even if they managed to win the SPL, if they didn't manage to qualify for Europe again then there in just as much of a mess!

Celtic will receive fuck all from the deal.

Yet more lies to appease the beasts. Along with the Aiden McGeady costing £10m lie.

I'm amazed that that one went around uncontested.

If Spartak have even come close to parting with £10m yet, then pigs have well and truly flown.

the russian press confirmed the fee as did the spartak manager.

Makes them look like they are spending a lot of money, suits both parties.

Anyone that thinks Celtic will eventually get £10m for McGeady is basically a spastic.

Exactly.

That £10m would have included wages, signing on fee and god knows what else the Ruskies would have given him.
