Showing teams far too much respect

Something that has been wrong for far too long at Rangers and it needs to change. We show teams far too much respect, we do it in the SPL and we do it in Europe against lesser sides far too often.

Sporting Lisbon came to Ibrox in crisis, had been dropping points all over the place, players falling out with the manager, the manager under real pressure... and they come to Ibrox and we sit off them, have one man up front on his own, invite pressure on and make them look like a top class team. Would teams in Liga ZON Sagres show a Sporting Lisbon team who are in disarray that much respect? No, they would be up and at them from the first minute because they know they are struggling and they are going to capitalize on it. So why should we sit off them and pretend they are world beaters?

What happened to the days when we had teams like Parma, Bayern Munich, PSV, Sturm Graz... come to Ibrox and we showed them respect that they deserved but set out to win the game and to prove we were better than them. Now we have teams like Kaunas, Unirea, Bursaspor and an out of sorts Sporting Lisbon side come to Ibrox and we set up as if we are playing Barcelona. We are Rangers and we should not be treating teams like this with that much respect.

Come Sunday at the piggery I expect Walter Smith to do the same and show the bheggars too much respect by playing one up front and playing to not get beat. It has to change if we are to improve.

Talking of the PSV and Parma games, I was just watching them a wee bit earlier. Although the quality was far better, we actually played the basics well. Passing, players making runs, defending properly etc- our players should be capable of at least performing the basics, yet we can't seem to do that...

And what do you know, 9k.

Have to agree with that. We give possession away far too cheaply and if we could retain the ball we wouldn't be knackered trying to chase it down so much

All the things you want, will never happen as long as we have David Weir in the side.

The team revolves around our Captain, it's as simple as that.

One of the untouchables.

Get Bartley beside Bougherra at CB and push a further 15 yards up the pitch instead of camping on the edge of our own box.

Yep, it's the old guard mentality. It cost us 10inarow and if something doesn't change soon. History might just repeat itself again.

we wont take teams apart until we can get further up the pitch, we cant do that with davie weir in the side

as good a defender he is his lack of pace is causing us to sit too deep

sporting lisbon are rank rotten, any decent side would have wiped the floor with them tonight

Kyle Bartley should be in the team ahead of David Weir, simple.

Lack of money money is not an excuse for the persistance with a washed up 40 year old when we've got a perfectly capable option at our disposal now.

Makes too much sense and therefore won't happen.

DB is right. It's like the 10 in a row season all over again.
