harry handsome 629
Given that Rangers faired reasonably well in the transfer window this time round my point may be a little mute. I was looking at the money being spent during the recent window and wondered whether it is having an effect on the debt some clubs are running up. In the old days, pre window, you could add a player as the season unfolded ie injuries etc. Nowadays with only having a set period of time to sign players has it escalated the transfer prices and wages of players as clubs need to ensure winning to remain at the top table.Would we have signed half the duds we have in the last few years just to get players bums in the dressing room and ultimately paid the price. I reckon going back to the old way would be better not only for us financially but it would allow us to sign players that would bring quality at a better price. There was nothing better than being told there is a press conference at Ibrox in time for the lunch time sports news and Rangers would unveil a player from no where. Irwin Sparkes 97
If there was no transfer window, we'd be worrying every day about one of our best players leavingFor that reason, i love itWe wasted a shiteload of money in the late 90s and early 00s on players signed in obscure months like November (Flo) and March (Marcus Gayle)
AGM_72 4,059
I see the point the OP is making about debts rising etc. However, I have to wonder if, for example, Man United were struggling in October/November or March that they wouldn't just go out and spend mega-bucks anyway. harry handsome 629
Thats fair enough about players leaving but i am looking at the big picture, we would be able to sustain a smaller squad if we knew we could go into the transfer market at any time.We also wouldnt need to rush into last minute signings where an extra week would give us a better idea about players we are looking at. Look at the player movement down south nothing really moved until one of the big guns decided to move. It really means that everyone is dependant on the EPL big boys to spend before we can look at the scraps.
