Android Market

Just got an HTC Wildfire (it was the cheapest contract I could get hence why its not the greatest phone) and I've been trying to use Android Apps without any success.

When I try to download via my laptop it just keeps saying there are no Android devices linked to my G-mail account (even though it is) and when I try to do it through my phone it just gives me error messages saying the download was unsuccessful.

Anyone any idea what you're supposed to do to get it to work because it seems pretty pointless having a smartphone if it wont download apps, so I'd be as well just sending it back.
