England manager Fabio Capello is considering calling up Celtic striker Gary Hooper, who has scored 15 goals in 22 games for the Bhoys since his summer move from Scunthorpe.

Remember their 3 year campaign to get Alan Thompson into the England team?

Eventually got called up for a match against Sweden and was hooked at half time after barely touching the ball

Also didn't sing the national anthem, almost certainly on Celtic's advice

They were talk of him representing Scotland a few weeks back, I wonder if this is a ploy to cap him early so to speak.

He was found ineligible to play for Scotland as his Berwick born grandfather was registered in England.

England need to stop pissing about trying endless amounts of average players. The amount of different personal and tactics they get through is ridiculous.

They should be building their team around young talent; Hart, Cahill, Wilshere, Rooney, Caroll etc and get rid of the 'golden generation' who are all well past their best - and were proven not good enough to win a major trophy even when they were at their best.

But no doubt we will see Terry, Lampard, Ferdinand, Gerrard etc struggling through Euro 2012.

Apparently they are a loophole as the territory in Berwick where his grandfather was born on, is now class as Scottish soil. As we know that part of the country has switched between England and Scotland over the years, and we are trying to push through yet another change to the rules.

Capello capping him would rule out all this crazy talk.

Fair enough. Maybe Capello would be capping him for that reason, but then again you look at players like Heskey, Bothroyd, Davies etc who show you don't exactly have to be a world beater to get a chance for England these days.
