papaguy51 941
He's not clueless, anyone I catch calling him a prick or a cunt will get a wee ban for the time being. He deserves better than that. What I would say is that he's very very poor at turning a game around. If Plan A doesn't work, then we're basically fucked. Irwin Sparkes 97
He should've brought on Healy and played 4-3-2 for the last 15 minutes. That much is obvious and very annoying. But he set the team out perfectly and would've hardly predicted one of our players being wrongly sent off inside 30 minutes.
norgerpd 280
Time has moved on and left him standing. It'll happen to us all but we wont be manager of the Gers when it happens to us.He has overstayed his welcome.
barrymorrison1 1,039
I personally was not saying that, I am asking the others on here if they do think that, well I hope they can put their point across. To me, surviving 30 years in management is a feat. KojakMF 18
I always believe Walter makes his choice for the long term betterment of Rangers, he seems to not be interested in quick fixes. We have a small squad so he opts to grind out results against the bigger clubs, the logic is there although its not what ever one will want to see, hell even I scream now and then wanting 2 up front so centre halfs are occupied and allows our midfield to push forward, but that's just me in my small time footballing mind. pcbear 10,932
This tie should have been put to bed at Ibrox, Walter Smith had me really scratching my head that day, it was a shocking decision not to kill them off when a goal and a man up, makes me want to scream more often than not now at his equally baffling team selections and tactics. skyehigh 2
Loads of clueless managers have been in work for years because there is always another club willing to give them a chance , tonight was actually WORSE than the last game and i never thought we would ever slip that low again . This guy set out to play for PENALTIES right from the start !!! Tonight was a complete embarrassment by a clueless manager just like first time around and in his time at Everton Should have been sacked after the last game .........very sore 3 months coming up as long as hes there ! AljayBoy 2,354
He was sacked from Everton remember?Other than that he's managed Rangers while smeltic were shit and/or going through some massive changes, and oh, having oodles of cash to throw around helped also.Check out his record in Champs League/Europe too. When you look a bit closer at his record you'll see that with admittedly SOME talent, there has been a lot going for him too.And overall I AM thankfull for what Walter has done for our club, but after he 'steadied the ship' in the aftermath of PLG - he shoulda left, with our gratitude. If Plan A doesn't work, then we're basically fucked.so he's clueless then, plan A is hope the opposition make a cunt of it and give us a chance on goal, if that doesnt work we are basically fuckedas for the OP's question, he bought his success first time around, he made sure that we had players better than the rest, and then just let them do their thing, no management input, not tactical knowledge required, just good old fashioned wongahe went to everton and we know how that went, what was it someone posted on here from an everton forum, smith played a 4-5-1 at home against the worst team in the EPL that season since he came back he has, for a better phrase, bought success again, hence the debt levels, now he has no money and the better players have moved on, he hasnt got what it takes to make a group of players into a well oiled tactical unit30 years in management and he cannot spot when a player is having a stinker and deal with him

barrymorrison1 1,039
So international football, picking up after Bertie bombscsre doesn't count?Really if he was bad as is made out, he would have lasted shorter than souness.30 years being average, sorry does not wash with me. ScottBF2 3,540
He's trying to be too clever. He's trying to give players roles which aren't suiting them and shoehorning them into positions and it just isn't working. He needs to pick his strongest 11 players and find a formation to suit, not his favourite formation and a team to suit. 2bob 3
The long and short of it, is that we snatched a draw from the jaws of victory at Ibrox, no excuses lets get on with the league. We can greet all we like about refs or anything else, nobody's listening, winning is the only remedy.
Thermopylae 15,288
I think he's just faced by a younger and hungrier man (I used the word loosely with lennon). I mean in his playing days at Tannadice Walter was known as the beast because he hated to loose but TBH I can't see there's much of that left.
