That was a 2 year deal.

Correct that was signed on 5th Jan, this was the one that was ripped up and replaced by a 5 year lucrative deal, supposedly, if he had signed a long term deal it would have been all over the official site to deflect the doom and gloom.

WALTER SMITH has expressed his delight after confirming that young midfield star Jamie Ness has signed a two-year extension to his contract.

The 20-year-old, currently fighting back from a groin strain, penned a new deal last December until 2013 but has now extended that until the summer of 2015.

And there is every chance he could celebrate the news by returning to the top team squad this weekend.

Murray Park product Ness played eight games after bursting into the side in early January and his performances were such that Rangers quickly wanted to tie him down long term.

Smith said today: "Jamie has signed a new contract and we are very pleased about that. He has shown in the games that he has played for us this season that he has a very bright future so we are delighted to get him tied up on a new deal.

"He has been hampered by a groin injury recently but that is clearing up and everything going well he might be ready to come back this weekend.

"He more than held his own when he came into the team and played exceptionally well for us so we were really disappointed when he dropped out through injury.

"He had not played a lot of matches in the previous two seasons because of injuries so after playing half a dozen matches or so for us we expected some sort of reaction and unfortunately we got it with the groin injury.

"So hopefully once he gets over that he can slot straight back in and if his form is anything like it was then it will be a huge benefit to Rangers.

"He is an out and out midfield player. His range of passing is good and he has also shown he has an eye for goal so we are delighted that he has extended his contract.

"It's always good when a young player comes in and enhances your group. He has done that and I'm sure he will do it again."

Superb news, decent player who has the attributes to become a very important player for The Rangers.

Hopefully he can get over the injuries.

I reckon once this lad finds his fighting weight he'll be an absolute star.

Good in flashes at the moment but not consistent for a half yet never mind a full match.

Haven't been as excited after seeing a young player since the Cafu breakthrough from Maurice Ross.

His career went downhill from his debut.
