Craig got all the big calls bang on

Ref Craig Thomson gave a 9 out of 10 performance at ibrox. No whistler will ever reach perfection, but craig went close as you can get. It turned out to be a far less eventful Old Firm clash that most had imagined it would be. But i reckon Craig got what big calls there were absolutely spot on.

He was right not to book either Mulgrew and Ki in the first minute for challenges on Lafferty.

He was right to wave away celtic penalty claims for the Ledley-Whittaker incident in the seventh minute.

He was right to book Weir and Samaras for the only real flashpoint after 20 minutes.

He was right to give celtic a penalty in the 81st minute for Steve Davis challenge on Stokes.

And was right to book Stokes for a blatant dive moments later.

Now i appreciate aggrieved Rangers fans will argue Davis collision with Stokes was no different to Whittakers on Ledley, but for me there was. Ledley created the contact. He Knocked the ball by whittaker and didn't try to go past him. But davis commited himself. Stokes nicked the ball and then there was the collision because Davis had put in the challenge. He effectively sold himself.

What fucking game was he watching  He ALWAYS backs up his official's,even when they make bad calls!

Read this in work today.

There's no point in giving an ex-ref column inches if he's just going to talk shite. Even the bitterest of tims I know admit that the first penalty incident was absolutely no different to the second one.

I could see it with my own eyes, who is Clark trying to kid?

Kenny Clark lives in a world where referees are always right, fairies feed unicorns sugar cubes made of rainbows and JFK, Elvis, Malcolm X and Marilyn Monroe are all still alive.

Be as well giving John Hartson a col...

Davis literally stood still, and made no effort to block Stokes at all. Hands by his side, so he wasn't trying to hold him off. Had no time to move, simple as that. Farcical to suggest otherwise.

Ki and Mulgrew were rightly let off? Ki's was a potential ankle breaker, horrific challenge. You can't say it's due to the timing of it either- Thomson sent Kevin Thomson off after 10 minutes at Hearts for a similar rash challenge.

Has he ever disagreed with a referees decision? Davis didnt move to the left or the right, infact, he didnt move at all. What was he ment to do to avoid that decision then? Disappear?

He also forgot to mention the push on Papac, I know it would have been soft if he had given it, but if that had happened anywhere else on the pitch, it would have been a foul.

He mentioned the papac push mate. I just typed that OP out, can't read his column on the sun website.

He wrote - It was the wrong side for craig and had he seen the camera angle that every sky sports viewer had he may well have given a spot kick.

How on earth was he right to give a penalty, and not book Ki. Is it acceptable to now fly into tackles tht could cause injury just because its the 1st minute of the game? :anguish:

Just because something happens early does not mean its any less of a card I dont believe there is a rule that says do bad tackles early because we can let you off with them.Davis and Whittaker cannot make themselves invisible to get out of way.Why did brown push Papac he did not win ball and it stopped Sasa making connection to the ball as he was jumping.Would have been soft pen but freekicks get given in midfield or for defending team for the same.

and he sid the first one was but the both incidents were exactly the same

Oh aye, so he did.

It's a bit sketchy, but I'm sure Ledley wouldn't have been able to get to his knock on, so he turned and jumped into Whittaker

Aye I don't understand that. Just because its early doesnt make a difference, he still made the tackle ffs. Any other time in the game and he was booked at the very least.

Someone posted yesterday "just wait until tomorrow, Kenny Clark will claim Thomson got all the calls correct." I didn't think it was possible even for Clark, but he was spot on!

Don't even know where to start with Clark's comments, but I thought celtc's claim after the penalty was more of a pen than the one he gave. Was the same as the Jelavic one in the Cup Final, so at least some consistency there. The one he gave was never a penalty under any circumstances.

Obstruction is not a penalty offence. It is an indirect freekick out the box and an indirect freekick in the box. What hope have we got when our referees don't know the rules they are meant to be enforcing?

refs are told at there training to either give a pen or nothing. a grade 3 official told me that.

they are trained on how to interprite the rules.

There's a massive fucking problem then! Obstruction is simply not a penalty! If that is what they are being taught then we should just give up and have no refs.

thats what i am told and the evidence backs it up. its not just in scotland either. i cant remember the last time i say obstruction in the box given as an indirect free kick. maybe a decade or more ago.
