Can anyone honestly say he is better than Cech, give or take Chelsea's bad form? No way.

Foster, Hart and Van Der Saar have all had good seasons.

McGregor plays in a pish league, but he HAS proven himself against decent opposition.

fuck it, he's a brilliant keeper and it's irrelevant how good he is compared to other top keepers.

We just HAVE to tie him down on a longer deal because he is worth a lot of money and I think he wants to stay at us for life if our situation improves.

And Cech > Van Der Saar

Just take a look at Chelsea's fucking goals conceded this season. They've been shit for 6 months, have had half their defence out injured yet have conceded 27 goals all season.

To suggest McGregor is better than either of the above is ridiculous.

But he is a great keeper.

Hutton was the best right back in the UK too .

Sorry to be a downer lads but get real.

With both us and Celtic, we seem to so used to watching shite that any quality immediately has to become the best in the UK.

You really can't make a judgement on McGregor's standing in world football when he plays in such a woeful league where he'll often go entire games without making a save

Obviously he'd be somewhere amongst the top 30 or so, but saying he's better than someone like Van der Sar, Reina, or Cech, who play more bigger games in 2 months than McGregor does in 2 years, is pushing it

I'd say he is better than a lot of keepers, that includes, IMO, Cech - better than Reina, van der Saar, Hart, not for me, but that does not matter as they are some of the best keepers in the world.

McGregor has done it in the SPL, domestic cups, Champions League, UEFA Cup, Europa League and at international level... he is a top keeper, and I hope he stays with us for years to come.

He is 28, and getting better by age!

I agree with Plamf that us and Celtic do have a tendency to overrate any player who rises above the usual mediocracy of the SPL. There was a post on here a week or two ago saying Jelavic was the best player we've had since Laudrup. Hutton was deemed one of the best fullbacks in the world after 6 months of good form. Stevie Smith was even better than Hutton and would prove it when he got fit etc

Realistically, proving yourself in the SPL is the equivalent of proving yourself in the Championship. McGregor's stock is probably on par with someone like Adel Taraabt right now, and that won't change until he plays in a better league. Hopefully he doesn't care about 'where do i stand in the world's pecking order' quite as much as our fans do
