Co-owner David Sullivan has lifted the lid on his decision not to attend West Ham's defeat at Manchester City on Sunday.

Sullivan, fellow joint-chairman David Gold and vice chairman Karren Brady were all absent as Avram Grant's team suffered a 2-1 loss at Eastlands in front of the Sky cameras.

The game was important in West Ham's battle against Premier League relegation, but Sullivan decided he did not want to travel to support his club because of the pain he has experienced when viewing away games this season.

"Watching our poor away performances week after week, and not having the ability to influence things, has impacted on us," Sullivan admitted.

"My family think I'm mad devoting so much time and money to the club and, as the match was on TV, I decided to watch it on TV.

What fantastic owners
