MIXU PAATELAINEN has told the Old Firm how to win the title next season: Sign Alexei Eremenko.

The Finnish ace has been a revelation at Kilmarnock this season on loan from Metalist Kharkiv.

Eremenko has said he would happily play for either Celtic or Rangers with Hoops boss Neil Lennon admitting he admires the playmaker.

And former Killie boss Paatelainen reckons the man he signed last summer can deliver the SPL to either half of the Old Firm if they meet the £1million valuation of him.

Paatelainen, back in Scotland to pick up his Clydesdale Bank SPL Manager of the Season award, said: "My honest opinion is if Alexei played for Celtic or Rangers, they would win the title.

"He is such a good playmaker. If you have quality players around him and the chances he creates for others, those players would put them away on a regular basis.

"I don't think either Old Firm side has a playmaker like him - a proper No10 who gets the ball, doesn't lose it, makes short passes and has great technical ability all round.

"I think for either team, he'd be a really valuable player.

"Both Rangers and Celtic pass the ball man-to-man and Alexei has to be in a team which passes the ball properly.

"Alexei being there would enhance their performances.

"He is a fantastic footballer and I knew exactly how good he was when I signed him. I was excited."

Paatelainen had just 14 players when he joined Kilmarnock last summer but he transformed them into a top six side before landing the Finnish national boss's job.

And he admitted he exceeded expectations at Rugby Park.

He said: "I did realise it was a big challenge ahead to get the squad together and good enough to stay in the SPL.

"The chairman said the first target was to stay up and then progress from there. I agreed with that.

"I knew it was a big challenge to get players in and gel them together to play well as a team. I want to pass the ball on the deck with decent movement so I felt it was the right time to make a change in the style of play.

"I started making phone calls to try and get players in and thankfully we were lucky on the transfer front."

Now Paatelainen has a similar building job on his hands with Finland.

He said: "It is a real transitional period for the national team right now and there are some really good youngsters coming through. The good thing is that there is no real short-term target because of this transition period.

"We have three years to build and by 2014 be ready to qualify for the Euro Championships in 2016."

Looks although im going against the grain here, but id happily sign him up.

Doesnt have the pace and drive of Davis, but he is head and shoulders above Jig and Edu in terms of creativity and guile.

Could definetely add to our midfield imo !

Everyone was banging on about him earlier in the season

I watched it today until it went 2-0.

Looked extremley unfit, kept shooting when he had an easier pass & looked as if he was easily wound up.

Not sure if it's because mixu left & he's lost interest.

Could be. He's had a great season though. Everyone has their poor games, I think he'd be a good signing, but there'll be better.
