No-one has played the game the way Messi does and no-one ever will, he's unstoppable and he's only 23 can't stress that enough. When discussing a players all-time ranking it is difficult to directly compare players who come from different generations. Tactics, training methods, diet, technology etc, all evolve for the better usually. So while it might be true that Messi is encountering far more professional, fitter, faster, organised and motivated defences he is also benefitting from these improvements. Then consider how good Pele or Maradona might be if they themselves were a product of today's game. Scary. Messi is an awesome player but as yet, his accomplishments pale in comparison to the big 2. It might be true that only an imperious performance at a world cup where he emerges victorious can elevate him into this type of company. Then again, such is the competition, it might take two.
