Take no pay till March

CASH-STRAPPED Hearts have begged their players to go without wages for another FOUR months.

SunSport can reveal the stunned squad were asked this week if they'd be willing to wait until MARCH to receive their outstanding salaries.

In return owner Vladimir Romanov would pay them an extra percentage on top of all the salary payments they would be due then.

The request was thrown out by fuming Jambos stars, who have now been left out of pocket since November 4.

But worried players fear they will have to wait until then anyway, with no sign of wages from Romanov forthcoming any time soon.

Morale at Riccarton is at an all-time low as the players look for outside help in a bid to address the situation.

Now players' union PFA Scotland has stepped in to ask for assistance from the SFA and SPL as the Tynecastle crisis deepens.

The squad had hoped to meet SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster to express their worries in person.

But the league insist they cannot intervene in the matter unless players sign a collective complaint asking them to do so.

An official said: "Under the standard SPL player's contract, the SPL has the power to adjudicate on any complaint made by a player or players.

"To date, no complaint has been received by the SPL in relation to any Hearts player."

But PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart says the authorities must get involved and support the unpaid players.

He said: "The expectation is that our members simply continue to turn up for training and games as normal without any sign of being paid.

"It is to their credit that they have done so in recent months. Rather than being weak, this takes strength and shows care for the club's future.

"There is, however, a growing anger, frustration and a feeling of isolation amongst the players.

"Our members ask for the governing bodies to intervene and help resolve this matter.

"They have an obligation to the integrity of the game and it is imperative that from this aspect our members are paid.

"There is no wish to take legal action against the club and we agree that it is in everyone's interest that Hearts get to January and raise revenue by selling players.

"But it cannot be right that a club can demand a transfer fee for a player who it cannot pay. The club is in clear breach of our members' con

A sad state of affairs as much as anything else. Can't see any of their better players being there beyond the end of January. Unfortunately, most could have predicted this being the eventuality when Romanov took over, really hope this doesn't prove to be the end of Hearts, the SPL can't afford to lose its third biggest club.

Had a look on their Jambo's forum, and even some of their most diehard vlad fans are coming to realize that this time they could be in some serious shit.

Arsehole of a man.

At the end of the day the failure of Hearts at the moment is a complete failure on the behalf of the SPL/SFA. I'm no exper, but you would imagine that had they done any sort of digging on Romanov's past then they could have easily come to the conclusion that he was not a suitable owner for an SPL club. Instead too many couldn't actually give a fuck about the state of the game in this country, they were just happy at the promise of potential millions being poured into a club in the SPL and the possibility of a club challenging the Old Firm for silverware.

They are in a considerably worse position now. Of course much of that is not Romanov's fault, i.e less money in Scottish football compared to even 5-6 years ago. However, at one point they had about 40 first team players and overall their transfer/team policy has been a total farce and its difficult to imagine that they would be in worse position now if Romanov had not taken over.

The problem is, Romanov is so stubborn/insane that I would imagine that he would rather see Hearts collapse before he walked away from the club getting nothing for selling them. In this climate, I find it hard to see where a saviour is going to come from.

That's the trouble with guy's like him (used to getting his own way, with the money) spits the dummy, there will be no rhyme or reason.

Everyone at Tynecastle, players, fans, board will be terrified to say anything to upset the fuckin tyrant even more.

As you say, its disgusting. He is in a position of such power, not only does he own the club, he owns virtually all of their debt, so if he feels like it, he could have them shut down and there is literally nothing that anyone could do to stop him.

The Scottish football authorities need to take a huge portion of responsibility for this mess. Most Hearts or any football fans for that matter are hardly likely to object to someone offering to pump money into the club and get them challenging for silverware. Moreover, fans don't understand/have no access to information about clubs and owner to be able to make an informed decision on issues like this.

The SPL/SFA should be there to provide a an objective viewpoint and make a judgement on whether certain decisions or people have the best interest of clubs at heart. Instead they just sat back and allowed this situation to develop and even now when its all falling apart, there is still not a peep to be heard from either of them.
