SCOTLAND boss Craig Levein reckons Rangers will not be able to compete with Celtic for the SPL title in the second half of the season unless they strengthen their squad.

Gers manager Ally McCoist has a crippling injury list ahead of the William Hill Scottish Cup clash with Arbroath at Gayfield on Sunday afternoon.

National supremo Levein believes Ibrox owner Craig Whyte must now give his old team-mate funds to bring in new faces during the January transfer window.

The same Celtic side we were at least 9 points ahead of not too long ago?

We went on a fantastic run at the start of the season whilst Celtic's form was patchy. Now it's the opposite. Swings and roundabouts.

It's only 2 points Levein.. Away back to the Rosyth bookies you fool doh

Don't see anything wrong with those comments.

If anything it highlights to Mr Whyte that we are in need of more players and he needs to dig deep and it's not just Ally that think is so, the Scotland international manager believes it to be true like many of the fans do.

There aren't any quotes mate. He probably said something vague about us needing to strengthen and the papers have jumped on it.

Hate to say it but IF Ally does go it will be Levein that will be the number 1 choice to replace him and he would jump at the chance to get back into full time management!

Him or Terry Butcher - We could not afford much better!

Many young bosses around the world would jump at the chance to manage Rangers.

There is also Billy Davies waiting in the wings.

With that said I stand by McCoist though

Sounds like this has come from his comments from sportscene. All he said was as it stands we don't have the strength in depth when you look at our bench to compete with Celtic if we can't play our 1st team regulars in the 2nd half of the season, and he's right! That's not to say we can't go on to make it 4 in a row, but when you look at it on paper we're up against it, just as well the games not played on paper
