Naisy - Positive Progress!

Recommended Posts

STEVEN NAISMITH continues to make great progress on his return from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in October.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist revealed that under different circumstance the midfielder might have been fast tracked for a return to action this season.

However with the title race all but settled McCoist admits that the brakes may be placed on the Scotland international as he continues his recovery from a second operation.

Naismith was kicking a ball at Murray Park for the first time today after spending the early part of the week building his running with physio Stuart Collie.

And McCoist admits that the progress made by the 25-year-old is positive news.

He said: "It's good news because he was only out running in the last few days. Having the ball out is a great sign.

"I spoke to Steven and had a good chat with him yesterday and his fitness is coming along great and he isn't feeling any twinges in the injury at all.

"He's in a strange position at the moment because in an ideal world we'd like to get him back playing as quickly as possible, but I would suggest the need isn't as urgent at the moment.

"However we don't want to slow down his recovery and would like to have him back as soon as possible."

When asked if Naismith's schedule would have been different was the title still up for grabs, McCoist admitted that would have been his choice.

He added: "If it wasn't a risk to his injury or his health that would certainly be the case."

Great news to see him progressing so quickly.
