The board of the Rangers Supporters Trust, like other fans of the club, are not in the least surprised by the actions and timing of the SPL decision to vote on rule changes which has now further delayed a future takeover of Rangers.

Given the severity of the possible sanctions, and their impact on any club who may also fall on hard times through mismanagement, it leaves us little option to give serious consideration of calling for a boycott of away fixtures by Rangers fans next season; specifically targeting those clubs who have rushed through the proposals to punish our club with these excessive and draconian penalties.

We will discuss this in the near future with our sister organisations the Rangers Supporters Association and Assembly to maximise impact and collate ideas on how a boycott could be facilitated if deemed necessary. There appears to be a change in attitude within our support and a unified determination not seen before as we again see another attempt to persecute our club whilst we are at our most vulnerable.

It may also be important to consider how these severe penalties, currently aimed at one club in particular, will impact future league and club sponsorship and have a secondary impact on all clubs reducing the stature of Scottish football as a whole. With this in mind we will contact several of the main sponsors to seek their thoughts on how these sanctions would affect their level of investment given the obvious inevitable decreasing level of competitiveness in the SPL in future.

Sorry if it's a repost. Never saw it on the board?

What everybody seems to have missed is a small legal technicality which could make any further sanctions moot. Laws and changes in rules and any sanctions that come out of them cannot be applied retroactively. That means that if the rules were changed today tomorrow stating a whole new range of sanctions could be applied, they cannot be applied to Rangers as they are ALREADY in administration.

An example of this would be changing the speed limit on a road. You get clocked by Strathclyde's finest doing 38mph in a 40 mph zone but the next day the speed limit on that road is lowered to 30mph and the same team clock you doing 29mph. The police cannot charge you for doing over the speed limit, doing 38mph in a 30mph zone, yesterday because you were in compliance with the rules in force at the time of the incident.

Getting back to Rangers, the penalty is for ENTERING administration or still being in administration at the start of a season. So long as we leave administration before the start of the next season, no problem. However we should oppose this immoral change in the rules which, as far as I can see, is being aimed at Rangers in order to weaken them for future campaigns and seems to be emanating from Liewell's office.

Big words from a small organization that represents how many Rangers fans. What are the current membership numbers.

I actually would support a boycott as I hate being screwed over by these wee clubs but I would also like to hear from a more representative supporters group. RST reminds me of lots of wee Glasgow hard men --- plenty talk but unable to back it up with substance.

There are some fannies on here who seem to hate the RST more than Celtic and our real enemies.

I was a member but let it lapse as they wouldn't take any fight to Murray, however we all want a strong rangers, and the hatred on here from some posters is shocking

Just released on twitter

STATEMENT FROM THE RANGERS SUPPORTERS ASSEMBLY, SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION AND SUPPORTERS TRUST

"Rangers fans worldwide have been very patient during the the recent difficult period in the hope that we will exit administration and be able to work towards re-establishing our club at the level to which we all aspire.

However, the delay in the administrator's announcing the preferred bidder is seriously jeopardising our chances of exiting administration quickly and is forcing us closer to liquidation.

With the proposed SPL rule changes meaning we may not be competing on an equal footing for the next two seasons, it is imperative we have the chance to exit administration with a Company Voluntary Agreement and that has to happen as soon as possible.

We demand that the administrators announce the preferred bidder as a matter of urgency. If they fail to do so on Monday 16 April 2012, we demand to be informed precisely why they cannot announce a preferred bidder."
