Goianegra 4,647
Eriksen strikes me as the kind of player that will flatter to decieve throughout his career. Liverpool will end up being as good as it gets. I don't even think he's the most promising young Ajax player tbh. Rangers_no1
simplythebest 11,453
Liverpool will offer captain Steven Gerrard a two-year contract extension and plan to reunite him with former midfield partner Xabi Alonso by offering Real Madrid £8.5m for the 31-year-old. ClydebankBearWATP 877
£8.5m for a 31 year old ffs.Not really a bad price, the role alonso plays doesnt require pace and great physicality, its one he can play till about 34-35 like pirlo does at juventus sitting and passing making the team tick
the goal machine 7,765
Eriksen's a very talented player but Viktor Fischer is the real gem in that Ajax team.
ClydebankBearWATP 877
Exactly. I'd say Alonso still has another 5 years in the tank at least. £8.5M is a steal, and he's a signing that would bring Liverpool back into Champions League qualification contention single handedly.would be a great signing and him and gerrard sitting with erikson infront would be a great midfield three but they need to invest in the defence two centrebacks and a left back are needed imo

the goal machine 7,765
Don't think it's that much of an exaggeration. He said contention and they're not exactly miles away now.

I do think Rodgers is doing a good job but getting back in the top 4 will be difficult, especially if the likes of Suarez get restless.

I reckon signing Alonso would make a huge difference to them.

the goal machine 7,765
They've improved a lot but a bad defeat always seems to come just when it looks like they'll go on a huge run.Because they're still a side in transition. And the teams above them suffer bad defeats as well.
simplythebest 11,453
I reckon signing one of the best passers in the world is easily enough to improve them by around 10 points. It depends on what the other teams do, but as the goal machine says, they're hardly a million miles away at the moment.Do you think if Everton signed Alonso it would be the same improvement?I just mean in the league table context, I know it's not as simple as that. There's an argument that Liveprool are underachieving.
The Godfather 70,781
Liverpool need far more than Alonso to get a CL place back.
Broxi 11,446
Liverpool need a winger, centre back and a deep-lying playmaker/controller (Alonso would be great).

blueboy94 54
It seems strange to me that Alonso would want to go back to Liverpool. Living in his home country, playing some of the best football of his career with one of the best teams in the world. Why would he want to go back to Liverpool where there's not even a guarantee of Champions League football?Very odd.
