RFFF = new playing surfaces

Recommended Posts

Ibrox and Murray Park this week thanks to the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund.

Money raised by supporters was put towards key renovation work on the Ibrox playing surface and three training pitches at Auchenhowie.

That allowed Head Groundsman David Roxburgh and his team to start work early in the summer and gives them the time to bed the pitches in over the course of the close season.

And Roxburgh believes the work put in during the coming months will be there for supporters to see come the start of the new campaign.

He said: "The first thing the fans see when they come in to the stadium is the pitch and it's vitally important that we keep the surface at the top level.

"The fans deserve to know that when they come in on a match day they get the pitch in as good a condition as I can make it.

"I'm not sure this would have happened now if the Fighting Fund hadn't come up with that money so we're grateful for that.

"It's not only here at Ibrox though. We're able to do work at Murray Park as well which is vital for the team's training."

And after a major overhaul of the Ibrox surface four years ago, Roxburgh admits it's crucial that work is done each summer to ensure the foundations laid in 2008 are maximised.

He added: "If we miss one year it can have a knock on effect in to the following season. The performance of the pitch can drop, water might lie and we could potentially lose games.

"Timing is important because we need at least eight to nine weeks of grow in period, so it's not something we can leave until the end of July."

FANTASTIC :praise:
