Has Green a hidden Agenda?

No lover of them who are leaving, but, something stinks here on BOTH sides

STEVE DAVIS last night told of his “agony” after deciding to walk out on Charles Green’s Rangers newco.

The Ibrox skipper and Scotland keeper Allan McGregor spent yesterday locked in talks with their advisers and players’ union bosses before both refused to have their contracts transferred to the Yorkshireman’s Sevco set-up.

Eight players have now quit in the last five days with Davis and McGregor joining Steven Naismith, Steven Whittaker, Kyle Lafferty, Jamie Ness, Sone Aluko and Rhys McCabe in a full-scale dressing-room revolt against Green’s ownership.

And Record Sport understands John Fleck will become No.9 later today.

But Davis insists he was left with no choice. In an emotional explanation to supporters he said: “I have never been one to shout my mouth off.

“Only those who know me will know how much Rangers mean to me.

“I felt it was only right to give the fans an explanation of how I’ve agonised so much over this decision.

“I signed a new contract last year, giving my best years to the club in the knowledge we’d be challenging for leagues and cups and in Europe year after year. That’s the reason I came to Rangers.

“My young family love life in Scotland but after all that’s gone on since administration in February there came a point when I needed to make a decision based on what was best for my short career.

“I am 27 and need to be playing at the highest possible level. I have had a great relationship with everyone at the club, from the fans to management right through to the tea ladies, since the day I walked through the door at Murray Park.

“Hopefully, I’ve repaid everyone by playing my part in teams that have won eight trophies and reached a European final in my four-and-a-half years.

“I’ve been lucky enough to not only play for but captain my boyhood heroes and no matter what I achieve in the future I’ll look back at the time I spent with the club as some of the happiest years of my life.

“I would like to thank Walter Smith, Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall, Ian Durrant and Ewan Chester for bringing me to Ibrox and wish the club well in the future.”

Ally McCoist’s squad has been ripped to shreds in the space of just five days.

Last night the SPFA legal team confirmed McGregor, Davis, Lafferty and Ness had joined the exodus.

In a statement Margaret Gribbon, of Bridge Litigation, said: “Letters of objection have been sent to the club along with requests to the SFA to release the players’ registrations.”

Yesterday morning the Ibrox club trumpeted the news that Lee Wallace has pledged to stick it out and will report for pre-season training as scheduled.

Lee McCulloch will also pledge his future to the Ibrox club with Romanian Dorin Goian, too, coming back.

But last night it was clear they will be in the minority.

Davis and McGregor are believed to have been infuriated by Green’s stubborn refusal to communicate with the squad or answer questions about his plans for the future. We have also learned the players were outraged to learn on June 14 Green had, in fact, transferred all contracts without informing them, their agents or the SPFA.This is now being probed by lawyers who believe the club was in breach of employment law.

It is also being claimed by sources close to the players that the situation is being made even more complicated by the club’s refusal to enter into negotiations to strike flexible agreements.

One source said: “There are some players who would be willing to move over to the newco so long as the worst-case scenario next season is playing for Rangers in the First Division.

“But if the club finds itself in the Third Division they would wish to reconsider. But no one at the club is making any effort to talk to them.”

It’s understood Fleck spent yesterday attempting to contact the club’s management but his calls were not returned.

By teatime frustrated Fleck was on the verge of throwing in the towel and could be among a final raft of players to snub Green today.

Something stinks. Whilst part of me is angry with the players that have walked I do wonder if this is an orchestrated attempt to achieve something else e.g. force Greens hand. On the other hand we have CG making claims about TUPE that don't appear to stack up. The longer this drags on the more chance there is of the unthinkable happening.

Yes IMO he and his buddies have only ever wanted to get the bricks and mortar , which they paid a paltry 5.5 million for and now own Ibrox , Murray Park , The Albion and the rest .

Thats all they ever wanted , even the most clueless of people know you cannont force someone to work for any company , hence there was never a chance the top players would agree.

But, the million dollar question is:

Do they Own the assets ??

I have to be honest, as much as I think the players are out of order and chasing money, despite their claims. I just do not trust this character Green, his statements and press conferences haven't filled me with confidence but more worryingly the fact he has dragged his feet with all the player and registration situation is a joke. The day we heard the CVA was getting rejected a meeting should have been called to sort all this out there and then, insert clauses in contracts etc, instead of this drip feed of bad news and players leaving because at the end of the day its us that bear the brunt of it.

Maybe Green does have a hidden agenda, not normally one for conspiracy theories but the way things are going, something certainly doesn't add up and we need to find out now what the fuck is happening. As much as I want to support my team and will regardless of division or circumstance, I am very wary of giving my money to the club when Green is in charge and I have no clue what is going on. He may be on the level and if so great but we need some clarity, theres only 4 or 5 weeks till the season starts and we are completely in limbo.

Davis: "I am 27 and need to be playing at the highest possible level."

Nuff said, no hidden agendas, just his career prospects.

Shuggy

the bit in bold tells me it's for financial reasons and not career prospects, he knows he's got about 5 maybe 6 years left and wants to cash in with a freedom of contract.

Fucking boo hoo Steven Davis.

Your head has been turned by the Bheasts in the PFA.

Your chasing the coin, you could have publicly demanded a transfer so to bring the club much needed funds.

Instead you'll trouser a large signing on fee instead and being honest, as club captain, I would have expected you to be leading from the front, instead you have said and done nothing since Feb 14th.

As someone wrote on another board...in years to come when fans are talking about the great Rangers captains, the name Steven Davis will be on no ones lips.

Yes, career and finance, they're both tied in. You could also throw in trophies but he doesn't have much chance of that unless he's thinking of an NPower Championship medal!

That's what I took from it. After the statements from Naismith and Whittaker it's good to see Davis being honest at least.

Also to address the op's title. Perhaps Green does have a hidden agenda. This seems to me like a quick way to get high earners off the books now rather than wait for transfer negotiations that could see them leaving for buttons.

I think we all knew the big players would be leaving anyway considering the situation we seem to be facing. Green's perhaps decided the wait for transfer fees isn't worth it so has orchestrated this scenario whilst sitting in the background banging on about legal actions to keep us all happy.

Is there anyone in this whole shambles without a hidden agenda?

i dont think so.

Although the biggest agenda driven to me are these so called fans groups who's leadership are all jockeying to see who gets a seat on the board. Unfortunately it's us in the rank and file with no ambitions other than to see our club play on the park that are used as the pawns in this game.

Yes we are all angry about what happening but i see no reason for this protest this evening.

1)we all knew players would be leaving (granted we never expects as many to run to the highest paypacket),

2)we also knew we not going to be in SPL next season (unless clubs suddenly change vote from their public statements).

Now which of these can be changed until next week? and how convenient another paper white knight group arrives on the very day; who like whatever reincarnation they have used before wont pay the money but hope fan pressure will let them get the club on the cheap.

who the winners of tonight? you can bet the usual mouthpieces will be there with the soundbites to us which the media will happily print. whereas behind they scenes these same people will be bent over knickers at ankles with both sides in the hope one gives them their prize of boardroom access. Of course they will claim only doing on our behalf but suprisingly meetings will be claimed as confidential.

Yes we are all being played in this large game of who will be major shareholder come the time us plebs dig deep into our pockets and make people rich with a share issue.

In short getting more worried about Green by the day, what is his latest excuse for lack of transparency, I originally wanted to give him a chance now I am almost at the stage he has had that chance.

I think Whyte still has his sticky fingers is RFC, don't believe he would walk away without being payed handsomely for his shares.

Green's handling of the players contract transfer appears to stink and he has been in football long enough to know what would happen.

Is it just me or is this beginning to smell decidedly dodgy, not again please.

Oh for the days the worst we had to worry about was losing a football match or our best player at the end of the season to the premiership.
