Hibernian: Rod Petrie warns about 'substantial reductions'

Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie has told the club's annual general meeting they may have to cut costs if home attendances do not improve.

"Growing the attendances by supporters is our core strategy," he said.

"We are asking supporters to do what you do best - support the team at home matches.

"If we cannot do that, and if we cannot grow our income, then the only route to get back to break-even will be to make substantial reductions in costs."

Hibs recently announced a second successive trading loss of £900,000 and the club's debt stands at around £6.4m.

order for the club to break even

"The club is asking shareholders, supporters and everyone connected with the club to play your part in getting back to where we all want it to be," explained Petrie.

Manager Pat Fenlon took over from Colin Calderwood 13 months ago and Hibs ended last season second-bottom of the Scottish Premier League.

They did, however, reach the Scottish Cup final, only to lose 5-1 to Hearts.

This term, Hibs have regularly frequented the SPL's top four and avenged their cup final loss by beating their Edinburgh rivals in the fourth round of this season's competition.

"The way things worked out, the appointment of Colin Calderwood was not a good one," added Petrie. "Mistakes were made.

"As chairman, I take responsibility for that. I am sorry that we have all had to endure two seasons of under-achievement and decline.

"I would also like to thank Pat Fenlon for accepting the post of manager at a particularly challenging time and for attacking the task of rebuilding the squad with conviction.

"Pat himself will tell you that it is still a work in progress as we approach the January transfer window."

One also has to question the little lurgan brat when a few days ago he stated that........backroom staff would have lost their jobs if not for the own goal and the never a penalty decision helped them on their CL section (I added the og and the offside goal, jst to colour the story somewhat, alyhought they did happen)

So Tam Liewell and his picture of everything being rosy is perhaps a new Japanese Tour :matron:

How can this petrie talk about integrity when he will no doubt sign players be they are on loan or bought in January and yet talk about substantial reductions........which we know will mean people losing their jobs.

One has to hope the the sfa and spl board whoever sits on them ...ooops! ban hivs from taking on any new players.

What they need is some fresh ideas.............what about a sell out Saturday...that could work ....... :matron::7325:

Basically, every SPL team desperately wants to release a statement saying 'Here, 'fans', gonna fucking bother your arse and actually turn up to the games?'

the fans did promise to buy season tickets in their thousands after all.................

Scottish football fans of rancid clubs are not to be trusted. They've really done a number on their own clubs with this integrity patter.

Their basic integrity is tainted by filth, the only thing for the chairmen to do now is react to this betrayal and self-destruct.

When you compare the level of debt of a Hibs, Hearts or Aberdeen to that of what we had and how crippled we were by it, it is scary. They should all be on the verge of complete financial ruin. They seem to all be hanging on though. No one rushing to stop them signing players, no one rushing to condemn the way they are run. No one pestering theirs banks to call their debt in. It is all a bit strange. We were absolutely slaughtered for having an easily manageable debt.

That's the saddest thing. If they had responded in numbers and backed their sides, i'd hold my hands up and say, 'well, fair play' - but its just the same nonsense as before. If that's not proof of a petty agenda against Rangers, then I don't know what is

We have shown what a real support is. I hope Hibs and Scumdee Hibs go to the wall... I do... (tu)

Scottish football has shown -- collectively -- what idiots they are. We will be back -- on our terms -- and life will be grand. Actually, it's always great to be a bear (tu)
