DORIN GOIAN could return for Rangers at Annan Athletic next month after his Italian club Spezia confirmed he is no longer needed.

Dorin Goian is to return to Ibrox

The Romanian defender is on a season-long loan at the Serie B side, but got into hot water with the Italian football authorities last month.

He contested an 88th- minute winner for Juve Stabia in a 3-2 defeat so strenuously, he manhandled referee Maurizio Ciampi, who promptly sent him off –the second time he's been red-carded since his return to Italy.

Goian was handed a bumper four-match ban by the Italian Federation Disciplinary Committee who ruled that he had "tried to intimidate the referee".

That was the final straw for ambitious Spezia, and their sporting director, Nelso Ricci, launched an amazing attack on Goian insisting he'd been 'my biggest disappointment, not up to the level we expected'.

Now Spezia have announced they want to keep Goian for their four remaining games this year in Serie B.

But after the match on December 30, when Italy start their winter break, he is free to return to Rangers.

And they have already brought in Swedish defender Richard Magyar from Halmstads to replace him.

A Spezia spokesman said: "We expect Goian will return to Rangers next month."

That means the defender, who is contracted at Ibrox until the end of next season, could make his Third Division return for Rangers at Galabank shortly into the new year.

Goian joined Rangers last summer after a two-year spell at Palermo and made 35 SPL starts last season.

A big wage coming back to us, not sure Green will allow as I thought they would be obligated to honour his contract unless both sides agree. Not sure he will be needed this season to be honest as by then we will have Faure, Perry, Emilson all fit...could be interesting

was there not something before this about him not keeping his fitness levels up or putting on weight, something like that?

he was dire prior to leaving which i'd put down to his heart not being into playing in Div 3 , just hope he returns with renewed vigour to get us through the divisions.

Don't know about this one Lads.

If he's been a liability over in Italy whose to say he'll be any better over here. I don't think he was particularly good for us in the second half of last season, although that point could have been placed against a few people at Ibrox at the same time. And there's the money side of things. I think it would be better all round if we could get shot of him.

Despite all his experience, I don't think Dorin would be a good influence on the team at our current level. Treated the games he played at the start of the season like a kick about.

However, I'm not sure he could go back out on loan if he has already played for two clubs this season? Does anyone one know the rules on that?

Not sure if this is a good idea.Mainly the wages issue.

And the team is relatively settled.

General consensus is thanks but no thanks.

Hopefully he was only on a two year deal. At least it wouldn't be as painful to the club to pay him for another 6 months. 18 months would be brutal unless he were to surprise us all.

I'd rather we tried to build with younger players with a bit of hunger. Neither applies to Goian.

It's quite remarkable how clueless some folk on here are

Jig is and has been awful at centre half. He needs to be up front or not at all

We have conceded one goal ( i think) since he went back to defence, I don't know what games you are watching.

You are aware we are playing in the 4th tier of Scottish football? You'll be telling me Kyle is a good striker next.

And this has anything to do with my point?

You say he is terrible in defence, but if he was terrible in defence we would be shipping goals.

As far as I'm aware, he cant play for another club. I have heard exceptions before, but that is usually been from players coming to Europe from south america. I think the rule might have changed to 2 clubs per callender year (which would be OK), if I just made that up, then were stuck with him.

(tu)

McCulloch has done perfectly fine at centre half this season and with the level we are playing at he's easily capable of slotting in there and doing a job for the next few seasons if need be.
