Shares...Is this to simple or am I missing something?

If The RST are trying to get people to put £125 into the share issue and really don't have the shares the Trust do, why do 4 Fans not just get together and put in the same amount and then split the 700 shares they get for their £500 between them?

Am I missing something? (Apart from a Brain)

because it's a share certificate, not individual shares.

the certificate has one name on it.

that name is legally the sole owner, so he could easily and 'legally' bump the other fans and run away

That said, there is nothing stopping any fans informally clubbing together and giving all the money to one fan to buy shares...

... nothing except common sense and sound financial advice :pipe:

It would need to be between people (eg family members) who have absolute trust in each other, but even then it's still risky.

It will still amount to 'X' amount of shares which could still be divided up at a later date.

Yes.

- But at a cost (brokers' fees) and still with no protection for the investors whose names aren't on the original certificate

The brokers fee would be little different to actually buying them on the open market

And I can honestly say i've got dozens and dozens of mates who I would happilly hand £125 over to knowing they wouldn't 'bump' me.

I would encourage everyone who can't afford £500 to explore this option

Edit - bear in mind if it was 4 people they would all be paying £10 each year on year to the RST which over three years would be £120

why is everyone so worried about the rst?

anyone who buys shares through them gets to vote on any relevent issues as far as i am aware.

Pretty sure our fans who invest in them are intelligent enough to ensure their money goes where they want it to, and that if things were not as they seem, are more than capable of sorting it themselves.

Its up to each individual how they want to invest and doing so as part of a democratic group of Rangers fans is as valid as doing it yourself.

Our fans come from all walks of life and have many different views so sometimes it is good to go with majority votes rather than us all pulling our seperate ways.

Also think green agreed to allow the rst to go down this route did he not, maybe wrong about that but thought i heard him a while back discuss this?

would like to add i myself am with no seperate group, only the rangers family.

The £500 is the minimum initial investment - once the shares have been issued there will be nothing to stop 4 people who club together from splitting their allocation into 4 separate holdings.

Investing £500 at 70p per share will buy 714 shares which can then be split into 4 holdings of 189/179 shares each.

By no means is "everyone" worried about the RST. They are doing quite well with signup for this scheme.

But even so, the scheme is not the favourite option for everyone, for lots of different reasons, and surely that's fine too?

Also, let's not turn this thread into a discussion about the RST. There are plenty of other threads on that already

But there will also be no legal mechanism to force the named shareholder to do that.

The World is full of disputes over shareholdings, and lots of people have been stung in the past, and are still being stung today.

Due simply to the date (???) and expenditure at this time of year my brother-in-law and myself have already done this in my name. We'll split them later (or buy more later depending on price/finance)

And I guess if people are doing that, it wouldn't be too difficult to draft up some form of agreement in writing, that might have some legal validity if the ownership is ever disputed.

You can buy the shares in more than one name. The prospectus has an application form which allows up to four names to be included.

4 Names. That's £125 each.

Why are we even bothering with the RST then.

Why aren't we just PMing each other and putting groups of 4 together?

(Note: I bought my shares via Capita today, so it's all academic to me really)
