Fellow Bears,

Next May, the Hong Kong RSC will be proud hosts of the next instalment of the ORSA Convention / AGM. This will take place from Wednesday 22nd May to Monday 27th May - This is the weekend before the NARSA convention being held in San Francisco.

If anyone is interested we are hosting the event to coincide with International Hong Kong Soccer 7's which will see both a Rangers Youth & Masters team compete.

We have a dedicated Events page on our website which we will update as and when required. This can be found here:

http://rangers.hk/events/orsa-agm-2013/

We also have an event page on the ORSA Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/events/390431391048218/

To save a bit of time though, here is a copy and paste from our website which was updated earlier today:

UPDATE: 15th December 2012.

The Hong Kong RSC will proudly host the 2013 ORSA AGM !

We will be hosting the ORSA AGM to coincide with the annual Hong Kong Soccer 7s and this has been confirmed to take place from Friday 24th May until Sunday 26th May 2013. FYI the Scottish Cup final will be held that weekend too.

.

Our initial outline plan is to start hosting the festivities on the Wednesday as that is the traditional day of the week that the players will arrive and it just so happens that there is a race meeting going to be held at Happy Valley racecourse that night! Did we also mention that Wednesday night is “Ladies Night” in Wan Chai where in most pubs women drink for free?!

FYI, the players tend to depart on a late evening flight on the Monday, so if you are thinking of coming along I would recommend coming from the Wednesday to the Monday at least.

.

We have already spoken with the Soccer 7s people and they have confirmed that a Rangers youth team will be invited back out again next year.

On the Masters front this is quite far down the line. It’s costing us in the region of HK$350,000 to fund this, but we are more than 75% of the way there, so we are still looking for sponsors if anyone would like to get in touch.

We have also spoken to a couple of the players and they are well down the way with getting a team of Legends to come out. If the names mentioned come to fruition then no one will be disappointed!

.

In the mean time we have come up with the following “general” schedule which may change slightly in the future!

.

22nd Wednesday – Daytime – Rangers teams arrive Evening – Happy Valley Racing

.

23rd Thursday – Daytime - Watch training/sightseeing Evening – ORSA function w/special guests (Peking restaurant)

.

24th Friday – Daytime – ORSA AGM / Sightseeing Evening – Soccer 7s Masters tournament

.

25th Saturday - Daytime – Soccer 7s tournament Evening – Junk trip to Lamma island seafood restaurant (Sash Bash!)

.

26th Sunday - Daytime – Soccer 7s tournament Evening – Celebtratory Cup winning drinks

.

27th Monday - Daytime – Free day / sightseeing / recovery! Evening – Rangers team fly home

.

First things first, if you are coming from overseas, one of the best place to look for flights is Skyscanner

This site tends to offer the best rates going, however if you can hold your nerve you might be better waiting until post Xmas / New Year as lots of airlines tend to offer “Sale” prices.

.

With regards to hotels, we’ve not had much luck negotiating a group rate with any of the hotels we had in mind. It’s the nature of the beast that Hong Kong is a top tourist destination, so the hotels don’t need to offer any deals as such as they know they will be busy.

In saying that, deals can always be found if you book in advance through the likes of AsiaRooms or Expedia.

So our recommendation now is to go ahead and book a hotel directly yourself as there are lots of decent deals out there at the moment.

To assist you, please have a look at our dedicated Google Map for the ORSA event which can be viewed here:

http://goo.gl/maps/cD1EE

.

On this map we have listed a number of hotels in 2 locations in Hong Kong; Causeway Bay and Wanchai.

Causeway Bay is close to the Hong Kong Football Club where the Soccer 7s will take place.

Wan Chai is one of the main bar districts in Hong Kong and where “Amici” is – that is our home pub.

.

As you will see from the map, both are very close to each other anyway, so no more than 5 minutes away in a taxi, which are cheap and plentiful.

So it really boils down to where you want to be close to. The tournament or the pubs

It should be noted that Wan Chai is the traditional red light area of Hong Kong, so it has its share of “girlie” bars, but these are fairly discreet, plus there are a huge number of fine upstanding establishments in the area. It just might not be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s fine though and actually has a great atmosphere.

.

For our events we host during the festivities, these will be done as close to cost price as possible. We are not in this to turn a profit as we know people will be spending a lot of money to get to Hong Kong in the first place. The race night at Happy Valley will most likely be a night down in the beer garden next to the paddock. The cost for entry here is HK$10! It’s actually the best place to be and has the best atmosphere.

We then expect to host 2 further events and where possible we will try and negotiate drinks packages to make sure everyone gets their monies worth!

.

When we have a better idea of numbers coming the convention, then we can start planning our events in earnest, so if you are coming please let us know!

.

Also, please get in touch if you would like any further information or if you have any questions to info@rangers.hk

See you in Hong Kong!

If anyone is planning to come across to this, please drop the Hong Kong RSC a line at info@rangers.hk

Also, remember to check out the Facebook Events page to on the ORSA page.

We're planning to sell tickets at some point in the not so distant future for the main Saturday night event, so when that goes live I'll post an update on here.

I meant to also add that the Rangers Youth team have been formally invited to participate now and I understand they will confirm attendance in the coming few days.

For the Masters team, although we are still looking for a little bit more funding, we are 75% of the way there, so this is definitely happening too!

Andy Goram is taking charge of the team and we hope to announce the players coming out in the coming weeks!

I can confirm there'll be a few more members signing up soon.

Can we get the soccer 7's tickets direct from the RSC at Amici? When do they go on sale etc? Cheers.

I'll look into this. The tickets are generally easy to get and "should" be getting sold online through one of the ticketing agencies here. If we can though, we'll purchase them in advance and keep them in Amici! :-)

Cheers HKR, keep me updated. (tu)

I got family in HK and they'll be joining the RSC there so they'll probably find out before me. I'll be coming back in May and looking forward to watching the young Bears.

Just a warning that in Hong Kong you are allowed free speech and to enjoy yourself without fear of arrest, being harassed or videoed. There is also little likelihood of being baton charged, beaten, or detained behind locked fire exits, so if that is what you are looking for, you will be disappointed.

The Wan Chai girls love it when I serenade them with TBB.

Just a little bump for the bears on this side of the planet, plus the insomniacs and night-shift workers! :-)

We are planning to sell tickets on-line for the main Saturday night dinner very shortly and this should go live before the weekend.

This is the junk (boat) trip to one of the outlying islands, so we will sail for an hour or so through Victoria harbour to Lamma island, where we will have an entire seafood restaurant booked for our night. Tickets will be all-inclusive of the junk hire, plus all F&B on the night and looks like coming in at HK$750 a head, so approx. 60 pounds.

It is sure to be an unforgettable experience for those coming as not only is it a great way to spend an evening, in attendance will be the Rangers Legends that are coming for the tournament.

I will post a link to the ticketing site when it goes live.

We also hope to secure a booking code for the hotel that we are likely to be putting the Legends in. The agreement with the Cosmopolitan Hotel should be in place by the end of this week. Again, I will confirm on here when its in place.
