Losing the super cup and world club cup is nothing to be embarrassed about, not reaching the last 16 is another matter altogether though.

Super Cup probably not especially considering the opposition were Atletico, the European team really should generally win the club world cup though.

It's not a big deal to English clubs though, South American teams treat it like a world cup final or CL final. It's HUGE over there.

English clubs are far to up their own arses, they treat it like the Europa League.

I doubt any European clubs lose sleep over losing the WCC.

Going back further, and relating to league position:

Forgive me if you know this, but I’m young and was not alive when this happened, but Aston Villa won the European Cup in 1982 whilst finishing an incredible 11th in the league! They overcame a 3rd placed Bayern Munich that year, while Bayern themselves won it in 1975 whilst finishing 10th in the Bundesliga; this being the lowest combined final, as they beat Leeds United, who finished 9th in England.

Those were the only two teams to finish lower than Chelsea and win it. There have been a few low runners-up, but surprisingly few – Sampdoria, 6th, as I already mentioned; an 11th placed Partizan Belgrade in 1966, a 9th placed AC Milan in 1958 and a 10th placed Stade de Reims in the first European Cup final in 1956, all three losing to Real Madrid , who finished 2nd, 1st and 1st, respectively.

Yep. What a team Milan were back then.

Kaka at Milan was simply a joy to watch!

He was to them what Gerrard was to Liverpool, he could win games on his own and some of the things he could do on the ball was terrific.

Shame it all went so wrong when he moved to Madrid as I though he still had his best years ahead of him at the time.
